Howdy,
Have done a serch but am not 100% sure that i found the right answer.
Anyway i have 2 prods with the auto
1. take a while to shift into 2nd when cold.(300m) or so.
2. wont lock up the converter in top gear. revs about 3000 at aprox 100km/h.

had a magor service on the car a few weeks ago. its done aprox 150k.
now these probs have started a couple weeks after that. from what i have read , a new auto is on the cards?:( $4000 from what i gather or there abouts?
What do you think?
any help apreciated
Thanks

Doesn't sounds good at all LBudgie.:(
I had an auto trans in a 88 rangie do what your first symptom is, it ended up being a cluster gear broken and ground metal getting into the valves.
And the later problem of the convertor sounds like my 96 TDi auto which ended up having to be replaced also.
I had a local shop change mine over for a reco box. $3500. He assures me that the place that recos the boxes are very good at what they do.
So here's hoping some big carefree km's.

Gook luck

Don't panic too soon.
Has the trans had a hard life?

I've just been through similar hassles with my trans ('97 D1 300tdi).

Have a read through those and you'll see why I decided to just have a crack at replacing my torque converter to sort out the lockup problem.

I'd start by getting it to someone that knows about ZF's. I took mine to Manuel Automatics in Thomastown.

I'm definitely no expert, but from what I've read I wouldn't expect that you would be up for a rebuild at 150K unless its had a hard life.
