The new product itself isn't bad. Bought a bottle a couple months back out of curiosity.

The name however is bad enough i assume it is probably a publicity stunt, getting the consumers talking. Waiting to see if it hits the supermarket with that name on it.

Is it not vegemite renamed, or will we still get good old vegemite too?:)

You can (and I would reckon you always will) still get vegimite. This other stuff is vegimite mixed with a cheese spread..

Dave.

Nope definitely not light as comes in fairly heavy on the figures... but doesn't taste as strong so probably good for those not keen on the full flavour hit... or internationals ;)

Couldn't agree more Ron, I like a (real) cheese and (real) Vegemite sandwich.

I bought a small jar of the new stuff, it was ok but I wont be getting it again.

The other problem is the new stuff has a very short shelf life, unlike Vegemite which is still ok years after the "best before" date expires.

My last post gave me the munchies.

Kraft crumbles: iSnack2.0 scrapped
JULIAN LEE

September 30, 2009 - 3:24PM Comments 20 (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/#comments)

Kraft has bowed to public pressure and ditched the name iSnack2.0 for its new Vegemite-cream cheese blend.
“We have been overwhelmed by the passion for Vegemite and the new product. The new name has simply not resonated with Australians. Particularly the modern technical aspects associated with,’’ said Kraft spokesman Simon Talbot.
In a statement this afternoon, the company said it would once again throw open the challenge to Australians to come up with a new name.
But the company denied it had all been a publicity stunt.
"At no point in time has the new Vegemite name been about initiating a media publicity stunt," Mr Talbot, said. "We are proud custodians of Vegemite and have always been aware that it is the people's brand and a national icon."
Thousands of the jars with the new name will be distributed to supermarkets ready to go on sale, ensuring that the soon to be scrapped name will quickly become a collectors' item.
"Our Kraft Foods storeroom currently has thousands of jars of the iSnack2.0 named Vegemite. This product will be distributed around Australia, and will continue to be sold in supermarkets for months to come - until Australia decides upon a new name," Mr Talbot said.
“Australians and New Zealanders will shortly be invited to help us make a choice. Please bear with us for the next 48 hours as we finalise how Australians and New Zealanders can decide the new name through an independent popularity vote."
The number of negative comments posted on blogs and on social networking sites is now running into the thousands, prompting Kraft to step back from the new name, which was chosen from 48,000 as part of a competition to get Australians to name the new spread.
Almost 3 million of the promotional ‘‘Name Me’’ jars were sold during the naming competition, suggesting it had been popular.
But the new name has roused almost universal indignation

Glad they dumped the name, it was a disgrace, like the anzac "cookies" that woolies tried to flog a few years ago before the backlash was that quick and hard they nearly got whiplash!!!!

if they dont like it overseas, good, dont sell it to them!!

mind you I know some overseas who love it... and a mate in the UK gets regular things of "chicken salt" sent over for his chips! (our salt is apparently better?? or maybe they dont have it....who knows?)

so big rush now to get isnack2 collectors jars??

Well, iReckon that iSnack 2.0 was a really good name, and a brilliant piece of marketing. They have millions of tweets, facebook, myspace, and you tube entries, forum posts, newspaper articles, etc etc. And it didn't cost them a brass razoo! Brilliant!

As iSaid in another thread, iReckon this is a good name, and brilliant marketing.

The stuff itself is quite nice, tho I agree with Ron that the full strength on toast is unbeatable.

Some wag on the Age blog said that they should name the next iteration iSnackVista! And a diluted version could be iSnackNano.

We bought a Jar to see what it was like. Its crap, has no flavour, its like watered down vegemite. I reckon they need a product to sell to the yanks who dont like the original, its to strong for them. So they weakend the flavour down by adding cream cheese. It went in the bin, i wont be buying more, as for the name, well its crap like the product.
