11AM,Fine day all going to plan and then 1 IDIOT caused this

1923219233192341923519236

Doing 60Kph and a "P" plater tries to turn right from the left side of the road, trafic coming so he props at a 30deg. angle.
His mate up his **** blocks left lane further and I hit the car behind him.
With only two options I went for the spoon drain which was better than running over 3rd. car.Turns out it had gas and if I hit him square on he might not be here.
Missed the power pole by 2mtrs and managed to keep the truck upright.
Total weight of truck 44.96ton(mass managment 45 Max)plus me loaded with pebbles for concrete plant 4Km away.
Hate to think of outcome if hit the car square or hit the power pole(look how far past it went).
My boss has been pretty good about it all but it doesn't make me feel much better as he deserves better(looks after us well with well kept trucks ect.).
2 tow trucks to get trailer back on the road by pulling backwards.1 on truck,1 on trailer.
A 50ton crane on the way when I left the scene.
Boss sent SMS all out of "bog", pulled bumper around and it drove away.
So it's of to be looked at Monday, and he's already put my fridge and gear into the spare truck for Monday(I think I'm lucky to still have a job)

I think I need a drink now I've thought about it more, Cheers.

Ps. Should add that no one was hurt(only pride) and rang 000 but as no injuries or oil/fuel leaks and road clear they didn't want attend.
Towies end up calling trafic div. to cloose road for recovery.

Very lucky man!!!!
I recently went up to Perth with a workmate riding shotgun to swap graders over.It really amazed me just how many oxygen wasting motorists were happy to cut into his stopping distance with the float and 21 tonnes of grader on the back in the wet!!!!!!

Glad to see you made the best of such a bad situation.

My old man was faced with a similar situation a few years back, but on the left hand side was a side street with a lady waiting at the intersection in her car. His wheel nuts tore her bumper off as he tried to squeeze through the gap. Unfortunately he still pretty much T-Boned the young driver who caused the situation. He jumped out and pulled the young guy out of his car. He ended up passing in my Dad's arms before the paramedics arrived. It messed him up for a fair while, and he still gets a bit funny driving that stretch of road and at that particular time of year. The accident investigation team praised his efforts saying that was the best outcome in that particular circumstance.

Glad you made the best of a bad situation.
I've always prided myself on giving as much respect as possible to truck drivers when I'm on the road. Not just for the fact that they are massive, heavy, can stop well, etc, but also because this country cannot survive without them.
I always wave them in when they want to change in my lane, I NEVER pull in front of them when approaching traffic stops and never tail gate them. It's not hard and I cannot understand why other people my age just don't get it.

Personally if I caught the P Plater that caused the crash I would have seriously skull ****ed him until he was a vegtable for life.

Thanks for the replies guys,
I just needed to vent my frustration so thanks for reading/listening.
I've delt with the aftermath of these situations and am all to aware of the possible out comes.
It's usualy the innocent that have to deal with it, Siska's post says it all.

Personally if I caught the P Plater that caused the crash I would have seriously skull ****ed him until he was a vegtable for life.
It took all skills learnt to stop the driver in front of me doing just that.

The instigators father turned up, he owns the car and it's reg. to his transport company.
He looked at all the tyre marks and impact points pacing them out.
This led to quite a long private family "talk". I think a private reaming was going to happen.

Cheers.

Hi Kyle

Good to hear your alright and no one was hurt, Simular thing happened to me when I had a tipper, young bloke in the service lane on my left pulled out and drove his HR holden under the front of the truck, truck went up on a 45 deg angle tore the entire front off the car which then got under the duel wheels resulting in the boot, fuel tank also being removed.

Only intact bit of car was the passenger compartment, the only injurys was to the young blokes knuckles where they hit the dash he was still holding the outer rim of the steering wheel when I opened the door to see if he was ok, the horn pad and the rest of the steering column were 20 ft away on the road.

Hopefully your P plater will learn to drive a bit better?

Hi,
that's bad, but it could have been a hell of a lot worse if it was not for your judgement under pressure and professional driving skills.
Bloody well done I say!
Pitty the other guy's insurance can't be forced to pay your repairs.
cheers

After 3 months on the road, I can't even put the words on the forum to describe how some IDIOTS drive. You were fortunate in being able to avoid them.

That's the thing. People who cause some of these crashes get away scot free.
I had an old dear turn across two lanes in front of my truck. I stopped, but the poor old bugger behind me didn't. Totally stuffed his car. And she just kept going, home to her cats I imagine.

with the retards i see on the roads every day who think thier driving is perfectly normal, i wouldnt be a truckie for quids

got called a few interesting things yesterday after the ex phoned and told me her car had been written off,

street out front of her house has centre parking, she'd turned into the centre parking to turn into her driveway, but just happened to pick the bay next to a campervan she couldnt see around..... pulled out blindly and got collected by a 4wd....

had a big cry about how she's lost her car, etc etc, i pointed out that she's alive, she's at fault, and if she'd had the brains to pick the OTHER side of the campervan, or drive 50m further up the block to the roundabout and do a U-turn, she wouldve been fine.....

as it stands, she's alive, i dont care about the results of her stupidity (no damage to the other car apart from a few scratches on the bullbar), and she now hates me with a passion for not caring.....

how do i tell her i care even less about her hating me?

Mate, good move in a bad situation. thanks to your action people are still alive.

for 2 years i was on the recovery rig ( NZ BOP) an old bush KW 550 HP GMC. at least 2 recoveries a week and 2 deaths a month. very really was a death the result of an accident always just stupidity. gave it away after an HQ driver came out though the windscreen and into the cab of a ERF hitting the driver, both dead. i was dating his sister at the time and thinking of kicking it up a level, did a bit of a head job on me so it didn't pan out.

That brings back a few frights I've had. Similar thing happened to me, guy pulled out of left lane swerved out in front of me to turn right and hit brakes hard. I swerved left, flat spotted the bosses brand new tyres on the super dog and the just missed his car by inches as it flicked out as I swerved.... and then I get abused and the finger from the idiot ....what gives???????
I was lucky I had room to move, good to see you got out of it OK. Hope your insurance company hounds this guy.

Glad everything turned out OK and you were not hurt. You are a better man than me. If that happened my truck, that guy would have had some serious injuries at the scene - even though the guys car was untouched....

About 15yrs ago I was driving a fairly large van that was fully loaded and an older gent decided he needed to turn left from the right hand lane without looking. Problem was I was in the left lane but luckily for him I read his intentions and had already started to slow down. Even so his turn took me by surprise and I locked up the wheels and just clipped him removing some paint. If I had not slowed down I would have T-boned him and probably killed his wife who was in the passenger seat as they were in a small car and my bumper was nearly at their window level.

He started abusing me as I had damaged his car and pointed out that in all his years of driving he had never had an accident. My retort was - that may be true but how many accidents have you caused! His wife burst out laughing at this so I assume this was not his first 'incident' on the roads.

Good save.

If the cops were called to the scene they should have put together an accident report of some sort. Sounds like a case for the P-plater to be charged with careless driving. That should sort out your insurance claim as there is then clearly another party at fault even though from your perspective it was a rear-ender.

Just to clarify, when you say he was turning right from the left hand side... was he stopped on the left - and turned across, or driving along in front of you, or turning right from a left side road?

He was driving at around 60Km/h in what is concidered to be the left lane,ie. left wheels around 300mm from edge of road surface.
This is the line that the through traffic uses.
At that section of the road there is room for turning traffic to be stationary and veichles to pass on the left without leaving the sealed surface of the road.(I've done this ).

http://www.aulro.com/afvb/attachments/general-chat/19232d1254556664-nearly-didnt-make-home-today-eagle-3-9-2009-009.jpg

The blue car is considered by all who use this road to be in the right lane,(approx. 3 car lengths from turning position)there are faint lines painted on the road.
I beleive that the l/h side of the first car was where the corner of my trailer is in the photo before he realized he wanted to turn.
This put the rear of his car about were the outher truck is now.
Behind him following the same line was his mate in a 2nd car.
He was followed by the 3rd car which I hit R/H headlamp to L/H tail lamp.
The point of impact (Tyre marks are on the road) is just infront of my R/H trailer tyres, you can just see the plastic ect. in the photo.

As a side issue I rang 000 but as nobody injured,traped,no oil/fuel leaks,fire they wouldn't attend.
Towies had to ring Traffic Opps Group to get road closed for recovery.

All paperwork done so it's in the hands of the insurance company now.

Cheers.

Useless *****s...the cops I mean. No time to attend an accident which required a road closure, but they've got plent of time to set speed traps on the bottom of hills on country roads that have never had a fatality.

Ohwell.
