ENGEL fridge issue

packed my 32L into the fender to use as a freezer for my fraser island trip and noticed it was only getting to -16 and not cycling off. i have gradually been moving the thermostat back and its now cycling on/off and maintaining -10.5.....not quite cold enough to hold ice-cream:(

is the old girl due for a visit to a fridgie......

whats are the likely problems?

short on gas is the only thing i can think of

Power supply would be my guees.
Same thing happened to me when my 2nd batt droped a cell.

Yeah swap it for a Weaco like mine and you should be right.

Power supply would be my guees. umm, hope not as it has been running with three batteries connect 1 x start and 2 x 100amp aux + a 65W solar panel
Same thing happened to me when my 2nd batt droped a cell.i am thinking i may have a suss aux battery but i still have 12.4 volts, to chack the batteries is a three day event.......soon to change
Whats it like when the motors running? drove to the shops today and left it running and the compressor was running, it could very well have cycled off then back on

Yeah swap it for a Weaco like mine and you should be right.nah will stick with my engels.........if it was a waeco it would have webt into panic mod and probably turned off:p

thanks for the tips, i must re-config the batteries so that i can check them easily, for peace of mind really

i believe engels are not current sensitive i.e. the swing motor/compressor will still run a 6V's.....not too good for your battery though

When the Waeco have this type of problem it is on the circuit board temperature controller which get damage by surge on the line when run in 240.
80% of the times the Waecos go in freezer mode :(

If a fridge is properly gassed and the compressor is running, if it does not cycle off there is only one thin it can be, the thermostat.

If it keeps running things should freeze as the temp is controlled simply by turning compressor on/off as required, same as air con in a car.

I hate to tell you this but it sounds like a gas leak.

How old is it? My old Engle developed a gas leak(19 yo) and had simillar symtoms. It was leaking somewhere near where the pipes join the evaporator behind the plastic cover at the top rear inside fridge.

There was a tell tale oil stain around this area.

i will have a good look at the fridge when i return, pull the covers of and give it a good clean. the thermostat seems to be working fine as its happily cycling on/of @ -10

Recently Engel users had some bad experiences with the reliability of Engel fridges here in RSA. But still their reliability remains the biggest selling point.:confused:

like my old one, Its low on gas.


if its one of the new ones regassing is easy, if its an older one regas it with FR-12....

when you say at 5 do you mean right at the 5 mark or when you wind it right the way round till the thermostats locked out?

5 is 5 on mine, 0 is off and 5 is at the end of the thermostat range i.e cannot turn the knob any more

they indicated it was working fine and there would not be a gas issue

my old engle goes to 5, has a stiff bit then clicks like a detent

might just be that my thermostat controls not in properly.
