Hi,
I know nothing about cameras but it is dads birthday coming up and he mentioned he needed a new SD card.

So I do not want to get a cheap and nasty card as it is a gift, any good makes out there, any I need to avoid?

He is only a holiday snapper so no need for the latest or greatest.

First off you need to know what camera he has and what capacity cards it is compatible with. If you have the make and model then you can get this information from the web.

As for cards the best to get are the name brand ones: SanDisk, Lexar, Panasonic are my picks. And in the SanDisk the Extreme III are the best middle of the road ones.

If you buy off eBay (or similar) there is also a good reference on eBay about how to make sure its a genuine card and not a cheap Chinese copy.

Brilliant, that was exactly the information I was after.

I agree, the SanDisk Extreme are the best I have few for my Nikon

Hi Black Betty,

I have had a great deal of success with Kensington memory.... check it out on the web and you should be happy.

Best regards
