The saga continues...

Just when I think I have fixed all the faults in the Defender, I spot coolant weeping down the front of the block. My first thought was huge Dollars...

Looks like the housing behind the water pump has sprung a leak where it attaches to the block.

Just had a look in the RAVE - Auxiliary Mounting Bracket and Gasket Service Repair No. 26.50.04. I just need to work out whether I do it myself or pay to get it done.

Any tricks to dissassemble?

I only justed changed the coolant about a month ago! I didn't change the water pump, so this gives an opportunity to change it.

ho hum...

P-gasket
get a steel one
clean everything well
use sealant
as you suggested may as well put a new pump on whilst it is off

easy enough job, if it has been a whiles the longer through bolts can be corroded, not too expensive to replace.

Sorry! I have no idea which motor you are both talking about.

300 tdi though...

Just change the pump and everything it attaches to... easy peasy!

Edit: Except, obviously, the block!!!

Thanks for your replies...

now that I know it is called a "P" gasket, I did some research and found this descriptive info:

300TDI p gasket - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum (http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php'showtopic=7547)

Doesn't look too hard, so I will give it a go.

Cheers
