Anyone having problems by being blinded by road signs when using hi beam and spotlights, also is there a difference between standard lights/spots and HID regarding the brightness of road signs at night.
WA has a blue colored signs and can be blindingly bright on country roads at night, this is driving a D1 with standard headlights and 100W IPF's.

Are you kidding?? I drive a TD5 Defender without a wiring upgrade. I'm lucky to see 2m in front of me :D
The upgrade is on the cards however.

Yes we certainly have noticed a difference between the standard and HID spots, the HIDs make road signs extremely reflective and are a real pain if on a road with lots of signs, especially the larger signs:mad:

I am running 4 very bright HID upgraded driving / spot lights.
Reflective road signs can be very bright, to the point where I turn off lights or go back to low beam.
I also have to very quick on dipping back to low beam for oncoming traffic, I don't like blinding people.

We noticed that the first time we took a new car up the highway at night.
The back dazzle from the signs was considerably brighter than from our old truck.
I think the standard of lighting in new cars has now improved to such an extent that perhaps the sign manufacturers need to reduce the reflectivity of the surface material used.

I think that is one of the reasons that most vehicles are fitted with dip switches, so you wont blind oncoming traffic. When approaching a reflective sign, you are the oncoming traffic.
They are your eyes, if you want to protect them so that you can see the road, take the appropriate measures.

The signs are the new standard.
Yes they are VERY bright when new but do fade somewhat, after their fading they will still be brighter than the old style.Turn the spots off if they are too bright.Better to be able to see them than not see them.

Thanks for the comments.
We have a lot of wildlife down here and basically wanted to know if the problem was made worse by using HID's.

Not sure but the brighter light probably allows them to see better so that they can mate franticly,  thereby increasing the wildlife population :p:angel:
