Hello there,

I am sure if you searched for this phrase, numerous threads would appear. Long time fan, first time caller!!!!

Getting the family organized for a trip around OZ, with camper trailer in tow. We are a young family, 34,31,4, 1 and the dog. Kids will be in child car seats.Just wondering if the forum could enlighten me a little. We will be doing a resonable amount of offroading, and want a car that, if we want to see a remote place, we can!!

Looking at a Defender 110 late 2006 wagon. A few spec's below to see if car may be suitable.
1. 60,000 km diesel
2. Never offroad.
3. Bullbar, Lightforce lights, snorkel, towbar, winch, AT's and regularly serviced by recommened people.
4. $35,000 sound fare..
5. Includes electric windows, traction, ABS and romote central locking. All of these items are standard, but I thought electric windows and central locking came on the Oct 2007 model.

My questions are, comfort for the drive, reliability and ease of parts, servicing costs, interior noise levels, economy towing 850kg Tambo camper, and value for money. I also have limited knowledge of repairs.

Any thoughts would be well received.

Thanks,

Matt

I would be asking why they have all of the extras on that vehicle if they never went offroad?

Other than that it seems a reasonable price to me.

I just paid a few grand lower for same year model, but with a few extra k's and no extras at all.

It sounds nice, but it would be worth getting it checked by a specialist

It is a late TD5 which at the moment is probably a better bet than an early Puma.

Electric windows were available from about 2002.

Price is slightly on the high side, but possibly ok, as long as it is mint, and has a full provable service history.

Economy should be under 11l/100km on its own and probably under 12 towing. You may get under 10 on its own if you drive carefully.

They are easy to work on, although they do have a few electronics, these are generally pretty reliable.

Take it for a drive regarding comfort/noise etc... It depends on what you are used to.

Any pictures of it?

We have a similar vehicle. I'd say with the extras it is a pretty fair price, but it doesn't hurt to barter a bit - enough to install a long range fuel tank, especially if you are intending doing a bit of touring with a camper.
