View Full Version : I'm enjoying Matilda already....

Just sitting in the shed! Tonight I fired her up (started first pop) and drove her up the drive, reversed back down, then parked her the other way around - all for no good reason. :D
I then started to put the spare wheel fastener bits back on the panel behind the seats. Just sitting there in the back of Matilda with a coldie - it was fun! :) I can't wait to get her back on the road!
The vehicle appears to be in pretty good shape - it could be better cosmetically, but I guess she is 54 years old. The only rust I can find is minor and in the upper firewall so I think it's a good one.
I'll take some detailed pics on Saturday and post them up.
Just a few things I noticed....
1) When the vehicle is running, the pork pie lights come on - is that normal?
2) The indicators don't flash - just stay illuminated until the indicator stalk is turned off - is that normal?
3) The RHS headlight works but is dim compared to the bright LHS one - what do I check for that?
4) The horn makes a cool sound! :D - I'm sure that is normal.

Just a few things I noticed....
1) When the vehicle is running, the pork pie lights come on - is that normal? They are not pork pies on your series 1 but look like beacon lights or some after market fitting and they should not come on - is it when the ignition is on or just when the engines runs?
2) The indicators don't flash - just stay illuminated until the indicator stalk is turned off - is that normal? Indicators should flash but I do not believe they are original and were put on later - maybe a new flasher unit is required.
3) The RHS headlight works but is dim compared to the bright LHS one - what do I check for that? Earth on the dim light sounds dodgy.
4) The horn makes a cool sound! :D - I'm sure that is normal.
Comments in red.
Have fun with it - series 1s are great.

I'm just hopeless! Another evening - another episode of going down to the garage (under the pretext of "just checking the battery charger" :D) and just tinkering away with Matilda. The more I look, the more I like.
It may have '56 guards off an 88 incher, Della Beacons on the back etc :D but I don't care, at least it's all in good order.
So thanks to you all for sharing in the moment with me :) - from around the world too, no less (thanks Grockle) :BigThumb:

At least you can turn the key and listen to the music.
Some people have to sit there and make broom broom noises:D
Or decide which one gets their dose of special attention today:twisted:
Beware, now you have 2 they will start breeding at night:cool:

That's the attitude Scallops.:arms:
My 80" has a 2.25ltr diesel, but like you, I don't care.:p I'm happy the way it is.

Look, I'm a bit the same. Most of my '55 57662054 has history. I re-rivetted one door panel and part of the tailgate but the dents and scratches are part of who she is. I'll just let her wear her battle damage proudly. Instead I'll focus on getting the mechanicals in good order.
