Thought I'd let you guys know that 2000kms ago I got a Waebco brake exhaust pump installed in Adelaide only for it to crack the poo's on me half way up the Oodnadatta track. Had a lovely 900km drive up to Alive where the lovely people at Sutton Land Rover (Terry & co) fixed us up but also mentioned that this had happened a week earlier to one of his customers, thinks there may hav been a bad batch come through as they had never had a problem with them before.. Heads up

What does a brake exhaust pump do? Is it for the vacuum for the brake booster?

The BVP failure is a well known and common issue for the Puma - LR have issued at least 4 new pumps to resolve this - Suttons would have fitted the modified part so you will most likely be fine now. It's caused by dust ingress which is why it let go where it did.

I had two failures of replacements after my original gave up the ghost at around 200,000km. The supplier gave fresh replacements but was very suspicious of my mechanic. In the end the problem was solved by my mechanic measuring up and packing the "new" one out a considerable amount. Something like 8mm from memory. No problems now about 40,000km later.

As I mentioned, there have been at least 4 replacements! , which might explain your issue. If Pooh has just had this happen - he will have the latest which will provide trouble free operation.

Made a few calls and found that it might have been a bad batch?? British motor imports have taken all the pumps with 08 on the serial code off the shelf leaving 09 ones to be sold, I had 4 of the k08 ones break, after working this out we had a e08 one put on and no problems so far..

I can't believe that wabco can consistantly make s%#t pumps.LR should walk away and find a new supplier. Pat

I have just been told that my vacuum brake pump has failed, its a new Defender 110, done 20,000kms, the seal had ruptured leading to leakage and pump failure, at least its covered by warranty, hope it hasn't effected integrity of other parts though. Saw this forum, thought it might be of interest to you guys.

Yeah when I spoke to sutton motors in Alice they said the new defenders and ford transits were having some problems still, that's so pathetic!!

I bet that makes you feel all the more comfortable driving across the interior, typical response from plebs now we live in a global economy. I can't believe how **** house the after sale support has been. Thought that when you spent 50 big ones there would be some loyalty. Not so.
