G'day everyone,

yesterday I took my 1999 V8 Disco 2 (Automatic) for a highway trip when the S and T warning lights started flashing together and the car seemed to be "stuck" in a lower gear (high revs at a given speed). I stopped and started again, as recommended by the users manual. The warning lights did not display again, although the car seemed to behave strangely: it seemed to have some trouble picking up speed and would downshift rapidly even at highway speed when accelerating (even on a flat road). Is this behaviour indicative of transmission trouble? many thanks,

Nick C.

It would have been the M & S warning lights flashing & the transmission would have been in limp mode (stays in 3rd gear).

Check the battery condition first, this is often the cause. Not always, but often & the easiest to check.

Hi Scott thank you for the tip! I will check the battery, as you suggest...can I please ask you to explain in which way the battery influences the transmission? many thanks mate,

Nick

NickIt's just a voltage issue that the electronic transmission picks up. As I said, it might not be the battery but it is a common problem.

You can also stick your head under the car & look at the inhibitor switch on the gearbox. The A/C drain might be dripping right on top of it creating issues.

Yep, that sounds like what happened to me. They are sensitive to the battery voltage. You will be up for a new battery soon!
