Hi Guys
I went to the Mandurah Boat Show stone cold broke so no boat.
I actually convinced myself out of a dingy for the camper trailer.I WANT A REAL BOAT:cool::cool::cool::cool:
I did have time to spend on the fisho sessions and learnt a few things and Im willing to pass them on.
KILLING FISH and FILLETING.
IkiJimi. If you dont know what it means have a google. Its a way of killing the fish. Its humane, and ends in a better quality flesh to eat.The blood of the fish is drawn from the flesh to the vital organs as the fish dies quickly.Less stress to the fish and less blood left in the flesh.Look up online where you need to use it effectively on the fish you target. After this display I will be buying myself an IkiJimi tool.
When filleting how hard do you find it to take the second fillet off??? The tip was to firstly cut the first fillet 3/4 of the way thru then flip the fish and fillet the second side.Once finished flip it over and finish.MATE THATS SO SIMPLE WISH I THOUGHT OF IT:mad::mad::mad::mad:
SURF FISHING
Over here we use a verion of a Patternostra Rig where we have a heavy casting weight and a Pilchard secured high enough above the weight on ganged hooks to impeed casting but keep the crabs away.
2 tips to improve this rig.
Firstly, instead of using a wire trace to prevent bite offs use rubber from a thong or yoga square slit and secured to a normal leader with 3 cable ties adjacent to the gang. Not only does it wave your bait around for attraction but it lifts it beyond the crabs reach:cool::cool::cool::cool:AND it would be a hungry Tailor,Salmon or Mulloway to chew threw it.
They also displayed what they called an IMP clip.Unfortunately despite talking to the presenter after the show, and visiting 5 tackle shops in Mandurah I couldnt get any. They say using the Imp Clip will increase your cast by 15 to 20m when casting a pilchard on a Petternostra style rig.It is a simple wire clip that you attatch your weight to on it is a simple plastic attachchment. It has a slot that you clip you bottom hook in.When the weight hits the water, the plastic paddle flips up relasing the hook so the bait can float free as per normal. The idea is the pilchard is strapped next to the weight improving aerodynamic effeciency.I have had a brief look on line for the clips but no luck:mad::mad::mad:.I have been given a contact so if I find them will let you know.Worth around a $1 a clip Im told.
TIGHT LINES:cool::cool::cool::cool:

I dunno, I find it's much easier to go to the local fish and chip shop - or even to buy fish fingers from the local supermarket freezer.

I last went fishing in 1960.

So it's all your fault then Ron? I haven't caught a fish with fingers for years and I wondered where they'd all gone. ;)

They're the best part of the fish, Perry - John West only takes the best. :)

That is a bit like paying someone else to drive your land rover to a destination and then flying in by helicopter to join your vehicle:twisted:

Except I rarely eat fish. It would be the last thing I'd choose from a menu. And there is no way I'd go fishing.

Before. :D

My first off-road trip in a Landie (as a driver) was in 1965.

So if you don't like fishing - why are you posting in this section of the forum Ron ?
Got me stumped :)

how could anyone not like fish :( nothing better then a slab of duh fish on the barby with some pepper steak salt sprinkled on it and a stack of greak salard and a mild red wine to ease it down the old hatch :) at least it's better then a half cooked steak still mooing on the plate as you hack into it
