Hi all,

Just about to take my 2001 Disco 2 TD5 (auto) in to Bris 4WD to get a few things looked at. Was hoping to get some advice or extra input on them before I go.

1) The transmission fault lights often come on when I first start it for the day, transmission seems not to function correctly (like you are riding the clutch in a manual). This is usuall fixed by turning off the ignition and then restarting. Sometimes it takes a few goes, but mostly the 1st restart is enough.

2) When accelerating suddenly (giving it a squirt so to speak) there's a rattle / grind from the front end (on the left I think). This also happens when you drive of a small drop while accelerating (like a speed hump) or accelerate over a crest while turning (crest intersection turning right for eg:).

3) seem to be leaking some oil, and coolant. Any spots that are common probs? Last time I had it serviced they stuck something in to help with with leaks "these things can be a bit weepy" was what I was told.

and lastly..(this happened on the weekend)

4) Had the SLS compressor continue to run after the ignition was off and car stopped. Didn't notice at the time, went shopping, returned to car to find completely flat battery and rather hot compressor. RACQ came out and got me started again (hats off to a 10 minute response time). Disconnected the compressor to get charged and stop it draining battery. - NO Dash warning lights at any stage!! Suspension was staying at normal height so we drove to the coast. Next day after 10 mins driving, the computer finally picked up that the compressor wasn't there and the SLS failure light came on. Reconnected compressor, light out, all fixed. Compressor is working as normal again now - perplexed.

If anyone has some insight or suggestions before I hand it over the Drew at Bris 4WD I'd love to hear from you. I've got a warranty on the Disco luckily.

Cheers

Wil

i would say thats your Traction control quite often they go of when you hit a bump to hard ect it sounds like a bag of marbles in a tin can thats quite normal ,,,with the TC going of when you acclerate mmm does not sound right does it do that every time you accelerate or only sometimes???????

i am sure some one here will be able to help you with your other question

Yes 2 is the traction control going off.

I can't comment on the auto or SLS as I don't have either, but keep an eye on the coolent level, make sure it's not the aircon dripping onto the drive, they do that, check the colour to make sure, the oil is normal they do weep a bit, only address it if the level drops a lot or drips onto the driveway.

#1 could be a weak battery issue. It doesn't take much drop in voltage to get these light up. It's locked in 3rd gear when in limp mode which explains your symptom.

#4 sounds like a sticking compressor relay.
