Any recommendations and pricing on D3 cargo barriers?
I'm looking to do some camping in Robe with the LROCV over the cup weekend and at the moment am looking to take the trailer at the moment as I won't be able to put the gear in the back safely as it will stack above the seat level.
Thinking that it might be sensible to invest in a barrier instead of using the trailer.
Not sure how often I'll use it but it should be easy enough to onsell if it doesn't get the use. Anyone know of a 2nd hand one for sale?

Purchased mine from Mitchel Bros in Sydney with hitch, think about $400 from memory. Fairly easy to fit & very easy to remove when not required.

How do the barriers connect at the top? Looks like the bottom connection is at the tie down points but top isn't so obvious to me.

I purchased a LR cargo barrier a few weeks ago, I needed it quickly as I was about to do some long drives, with a lot of gear and my children, so it was a must have. If I had had more time (or better planning) I would have considered one from 4 x 4 intellegence or from the LR OEM supplier Hayman Reece, or another vendor as the LR one was very pricey and the labour charge was high. I have not seen the 4x4 Intellegence barrier, but having looked at their other products before they make good products so second time around I would definately consider them.:D

In the Oct Overlander 4WD mag, Robert Pepper gives you the answer in his handy Disco 3 Project article. ( Hayman Reece: www.haymanreece.com.au )
I had a (top) half barrier in mine and it was perfect.
Ashes, the trim is removed to fit them. They are designed in a way that ensures they don't interfere with airbags.

I'll have a look at the mag. The one that seems readily available is a Tradesman which is distributed by Autosafe I think. Look like it mounts to the tie down points near the back of the middle row and then to the rear somewhere. Pricing is somewhere between $450 and $695.. I know which end of the scale I'll be looking at.

It just so happens that TRADESMAN used my D3 for the prototype years ago. It was great. I would recommend it. And their racks are great. Good blokes too. :BigThumb:

Two bars from the barrier to the rear of the roof crosmember & bolted there. No interference with the air bags. No holes through trim/lining either.

I've ordered one through Simon at 4x4 intelligence. Should arrive next week which will give me time to install it next weekend and do a test load of the car before the trip the following weekend. Sounds like the roof mount part is fiddly but DIY dooable. Will try to remember to take some pics of the install.

My Hayman Reece / Land Rover barrier requires two holes cut into one trim panel for the upper two mountings. Nothing major, and barely noticeable unless you look up. Other designs may be different.

Simon's barrier is easy to instal behind the second row but don't break the plastic trim-holding plugs in the ceiling. They are very expensive for what they are.
I have been using it behind the second row of seats. Let us know how you go if you instal it behind ther front row.

Any tips for removing the trim without breaking the clips?

Gently does it to let the plastic ease out..

Once the 4x4 int barrier is fitted how long would it take you to remove and replace it?
Cheers, Steve

10 minutes at most. Put the barrier in through the side door with the seats down.

When I have it in it is held with turnbuckles at the bottom as I also have Boab drawers. Difficult to photo and probably not helpful. Instructions are easy to follow though.

One question....
How do you get the bolts on the rear brackets to engage with the 10mm mounting plates on the wire. Seems like mission impossible to me:confused: Help!!!

With a lot of difficulty! Keep trying, eventually you'll get it! It's a poor design but once you've done it it's easy the next time.

Installed.. Those rear brackets are fiddly but overall looks solid and a neat fit.
The technique that worked in the end on the rear brackets.
- tape the rear brackets to the roof trim so you don't need to hold it.
- Slide the capture bracket piece in that's attached to the wire and using some pressure on the wire against the opening where you slid it in from, hold it there when alligned with the hold for the bolt.
- may take quite a few goes to get the bolt to catch the capture bracket but it should eventually. Only needs a 1/10th of a turn to initially engage
- stop swearing..stretch the legs and back. The rest takes only a few minutes to put in.
- easiest to put in and remove the barrier with the rear seats down at floor level and in through the 2nd row passenger doors.
