Just wondering about the flange on the input gear in LT230 transfer boxes.
As you can see in the photo (circled), I have removed an old input gear from a box that I am rebuilding, which has a different flange than the new gear beside it.
What difference will this make, will it cause me troubles down the track. As yet I have not removed my old LT230 to see what it has, nor do i know what the R380 takes in.
However, does that flange bit matter at all? Have I been sent the wrong input gear?
Any help appreciated!

Provided the teeth count is the same, there is no problems with the other ( Possibly defender) input gear. The extra bit is if you want to use a PTO.

It looks like it has less teeth, therefore will have taller gearing & wont match up

hi you will need the different bearing support plate as the distance between brgs is different otherwise it's the same, the dogs on the back end are for PTO.

Really? Surely it wouldn't be that much different? Though, when I tested the preload just earlier when I installed it, the input gear didn't even move at all....
I guess I will have to use the cover from my already installed box, as that's where I got the transfer box number from, which I gave you when I bought the input gear, etc earlier this year.

They possibly swapped with mine aswell.;)

Well the transfer currently installed is a suffix E, and the one I am rebuilding is a suffix F.
According to the Ashcroft website, from transfer suffix C onwards, they all take the same input gear? It also says that all 300Tdi have the FTC5087 until suffix G.
So how could these two gears in that photo be different?

Hi,
as long as they both have 28 teeth it will swap fine, the additional teeth are for the PTO if required,
the rear support plates are the same from suffix A to F but the suffix G has a longer gear and a thicker plate, about + 5mm,
I will remind Ian on Monday !

Well finally I have the time again to start working on the LT230. It is almost finished and I am confused with the following, related to what was discussed above.
I have put all the gears in and stuff, as per the manual, and yesterday I put on the "Mainshaft input gear bearing housing" and "PTO cover" (which I am assuming is what Dave referred to as the rear support plates)...
Prior to putting them on I could turn the output shafts pretty easily. Afterward it wouldn't turn very well. And most of the time the diff wouldn't kick in and turn the mainshaft....
So this begs the question that I was confused with as above. Do I need to find alternative plates to suit the new mainshaft that I got. So that it spins freely?

I have had this before, but in a different LT230 a wile back. The suffix G dogged gear was longer I thought:confused:
Don't force it! Id check the lengths if I were you.

Okay, so only an input gear with Suffix G requires a different "Mainshaft input gear bearing housing" and/or "PTO cover"?
And seeing that mine is a Suffix C to F input gear, no new plates are required?
If this is the case, what would cause the turning of the shafts to change when I put the plates on?
