Hey All

Looking at getting some new rims for some 35x11.5 or 35x10.5 simex or silverstone extremes.

Is there any benefits or dis benefits from running the 15 or 16 inch rims? I would imagine with the 15s that you have more sidewall and hence more bagging, but the con is more sidewall being exposed.

Opinions would really help...

Cheers

15's are generally cheaper than the 16's, but they tuck under even more than the 16's. You'll notice that many of the rock crawler tyres are now moving back to radials and are upping the rim sizes to somewhere between about 17" and 20" for 37" to 40" tyres.

16'' rims are $120 each,15'' are $55. Pat

The reason I went back to 16's was the availability of 16 inch replacements - of tyres and rims. The 15 inch American standard seems to be diminishing, and it's always handy to be able to use a spare LR wheel when you need it.

I actually had slight probs running 15,s as they actually rubbed on the dust gaurds( I think thats what they call em) till I bent them out.
Cheers Dean.

With a 31 inch tyre I would run a 15 inch rim to get a decent amount of sidewall to allow for flex in the tryre. At 35 inches I reckon you have too much sidewall on a 15 inch rim. The additional sidewall height slows down your steering and handling response. I would certainly be looking for a 16 inch rim in the size you are talking.

Thanks for the replies guys. Ended up getting some simexs on 16x8 rims for a good price. And they come with 2nd air beadlocks! sweet.

I did think 15s were a bit small anyway.

Good stuff Angus, which Simex did you end up getting?

BTW, 16's and Simex is the only way to go! On 15's they will move around too much.

Hi Simon

I got the Simex Extreme Centipedes. I know these are noisier and dont drive as well (comparably) to the Jungle Trekker, but I wanted excellent traction for the mud.
