View Full Version : Rego Plate holder to fabricate for Defender Kaymar Carrier

Some may have seen my earlier post about relocating my rego plate onto my Kaymar carrier to keep on the right side of PC Plod...

I called Kaymar today for the part number with a view to ordering it... Only to be told that they dont do anything off the shelf for a Defender with alloys...

That set me thinking that Im going to have to have something fabricated.

I have a few ideas about what I need and how to achieve it - the problem is Im in a country with no tools, welding ability or contacts.... and a PC Plod that has told me to move the plate from where it is now (in its normal position, but behind the roofrack ladder).

My current idea is to have a thin plate that gets trapped between the carrier and the wheel with 2 studs protruding through 2 of the available stud holes in the wheel. A second plate would then bolt to the trapped one and hold the rego plate in place.

So heres the rub - Would anybody around Sydney be willing to give up an afternoon (or morning!?) one Saturday or Sunday with a few bits of steel that could be put together to to make me a rego holder?

Payment hopefully to be beer tokens...

Thanks
Jon

Where ever you put the plate the light will have to follow.:(

Thought about modifying the ladder? No need to rewire the light then.
I used to have a ladder that started just above the number plate - use a bumperette for the bottom step.

Just had another look at your rig and had a thought re modifying the ladder - what about attaching it to the top capping of the tub and hinge the bottom half so that it folds up onto the top half while travelling?

Jon what about fixing the rego plate to the ladder?

Thought about that Derek, but I think the lighting of rego would be a bit of an issue, especially as thought the ladder does get a fair bit of use.

G'day Jon,
Welcome to oz ;), my number plate is fixed to the rear crossmember with light above it. I've enclosed photos but not the best shots :D but that's all I could find. Maybe you could do something similar.

Your defender looks well sorted.

I believe there are also minimum and maximum heights to be observed too, to keep it in camera range.
