Hi, i'd thought i'd show off my new work horse/toy. 2010 mod with 7 seats. All pretty much same as last years mod. Goes hell of a lot better off road then my dad's 130 but they're both pretty awesome. Many add ons to come.
I'll start with front bar and winch, at least if i get myself stuck i can get out easy enough.
Got a good set of off raod wheels, so now all i have to do is find the time to get away, already gave it a bit of a test out around here, not much to slow it down but. 2" lift would be unreal. Anyway check it out i'll put more pics up later when i get better ones.

Very Nice :) So when you say 2010 Mod 110 does that mean it is a 2010 model? If so that was early!! Is there anything different on a '10 model??
Also what colour is that? It looks like an awesome modern olive green? but that might just be the photo's? Who knows if it's not olive maybe LR should make the colour :)
Cheers,

You might want to do a search and read through the arguments for & against winches before... ;)
Nice looking truck BTW.

Are you serious, I think if everyone could afford too or was a allowed too, buy a winch they would.

What arguments are against winches ?

Firstly, let me clarify that I am talking about vehicle mounted winches, not hand winches. It also depends what you want to use a winch for.
If you do a search, there have been plenty of discussions around this subject but the basic argument goes something like this:
A vehicle mounted winch can only pull in the one direction and as they are usually mounted on the front, they can only pull you forwards. When you get stuck, the easiest way out is usually to go out backwards...
If you carry a hand winch (such as a Turfor), you can use it in any direction.
Then, there's the question of weight... By the time you add the weight of the winch and winch bumper, you're looking at >100kg. That extra weight in front of the front axle, not only means that you need to adjust your suspension setup but it quite often affects your approach angle. Don't forget also your GVM as that extra weight reduces the amount you can carry...
Personally, if it weren't for the fact that I have Camel & G4 cars, I wouldn't bother with a vehicle mounted winch.
I'll let someone else present the argument for...

This is all true, I personally dont have a vechile mounted winch, have better thing to spend my money one and I have V8 springs in my td5.

I throught you were talking about winches in general :bangin::bangin:

Gees you go away for awhile then everyone starts yelling at each other...
Colour is stornoway gray. Click the pictures.
I'm also looking at the 2inch lift, i think would be best is to put all my add on bits then work out how much it all weighs then get the springs to suit. It's all idea's at this point, main reason for a winch was if i go away with just one 4b i can get out easy.
Though to add to that have heard LR's are good at reversing out of trouble.

I'm also looking at the 2inch lift, Watch out for new vibrations if you do this. These new Defenders don't like lifts & you may need to have a new front propshaft made with a double cardan joint.

its the easiest lift coz they say you don't have to change much, but i havn't done one so i don't know.

I have winches on my vehicles and use them. Many times they have been worth every dollar and more that I paid for them. I won't forget one trip that took 4 hours to go 300 meters - 4 vehicles with winches and 2 without.
Even with other vehicles, there have been occasions when a stuck vehicle could not be recovered with snatch straps and the winch was needed (digging the stuck vehicle out of a swamp was not an option).
Tirfors take up room (to precious for me) inside, are slow to deploy and even slower to recover vehicles. They are unsuitable for me, though younger blokes without a bad back can manage with one.
Because I intend to do a lot more traveling on my own (including towing my boat in the northern parts of Aus at the end of the wet season), my rangie mods include front and rear hydraulic winches.
Whoever said that you can't winch backwards with a front mounted winch has not had to ;), or has not been practical enough.

nah my mate had this on his series (hybrid) vehicle.....he had a hydraulic winch mounted at the front that could be used to winch from behind also..he did that back in 05 I think

Yeeeeesssss.... It's possible but a PITA to setup. Frankly, it'll be quicker deploying a Tirfor. ;)
Personally, I prefer to not get stuck in the first place. :D

Once saw some commercial fishermen (small coastal down on York Peninsular from memory) who ran their front PTO winch cables under the vehicles to pull large boats onto the trailer.
Where the cable ran under the axle housings they had tack welded some steel about 12mm(?) square to the housings.
They also had a pulley on the front below the winch and one on the back etc.

I'd second the winch. They're one of those things where even if you need it for some odd occasion you'll be glad you had it. As a mate explained it to me once, "If you were bogged in the middle of nowhere would you rather have the winch or the money you saved by not having it?", a fair argument that could be extended to the extra weight, etc. I also prefer the slow and steady winch to the barely-contained mayhem that can sometimes be a snatch recovery.
By the way, your new car looks clean. Why is this? :p

Give me a chance, my drive way is only 800m of dust.... just can't see it. :p first day i had it there.
But found out not even the dam banks slow it down. One day when we get rain then they might be full...
