Well I'm thinking of upsizing mine today! Apple have just released new imacs with a 27" screen and quad cores :D :D
Oh, and they have dropped the price and up the spec of everything :)

Just been browsing the Apple site before here. 27" Quad-Core, 1TB HDD, 4GB RAM (minimum)... $2,599

Roll on November :)
Interestingly we were discussing these in my pod and work, and I said I'm keen on that computer. So, the Bill Gates love child in the pod and myself started adding up the component cost at our local cheap website. By the time we had just the processor, motherboard, memory, and screen (this was hard as the biggest we could find was a 25) he stopped and declared that you had about $900 left for "the rest". That included case, hdd, DVD, camera, speakers, flash kbd and mouse, and importantly, Windows 7. Even he begrudgingly concluded that it was "good value". :D
This supports my assertion that if the currency is in good shape Apple hardware usually comes up as good value when compared on like for like..

Yeah it's amazing value! And the 27" supports video INPUT via display port - I was thinking about getting a 30" ACD which is $2798...the quad-core 27" iMac is $2599! So for $199 less you get a computer as well as a display which is almost as big as the 30"!

Since I have always been a windows person, I was going to upgrade early next year to a windows box with similar specs to the quad core iMac.
Just been doing the sums and the iMac is looking really good price wise.
My biggest problem is that I have a considerable investment in Windows software and going iMac is going to add several thousand dollars to the cost.
Most of the time on forums we get people saying that someone should change operating systems but ignore the cost of new software.
And no mention of unix stuff please. It is irrelevant to this thread :o

That's got to be the best value combination on the market.
Had my Mac book pro for couple of years:)
But there is nothing like having plenty of real estate to work on, and 27" is pretty good. 30" screens are still a bit pricey.

Get VMware Fusion (http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/) and run Windows for software you need...then over time buy Mac equivalents instead of upgrading the windows version. It's a very easy and convenient way to transition at your own pace while reducing initial software migration costs.
