Hi Guys,

We are trying to remove the front door trim on a 2002 'fender but getting stuck on the door lock button... how do you get it off? What is the trick?

Cheers.
Flagg.

Bit hard to describe but there is a catch on the inside of the sliding lock that you need to overcome, then the outer sleeve will pull upwards. Took me forever the first time I did it as I had no idea what I was doing.

Thanks dm,

What is the general area of the catch? is it up at the button or down at the lock?

Hi flagg, I'm basically new to landies and this site, have been poking around but can't offer any real help however have you seen the Rave landrover serviceshop manuals? I read about them somewhere, probably here and did a google search the other day, found it at
The Green Oval - Downloads | Land Rover Data (http://green-oval.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=13&Itemid=29)
then downloaded the def file at work (465 mB and a couple of hundred pages). It's got good 3d drawings of nearly EVERYTHING including the doors. I'd email it to you but it'd take me 2 months. It's an cd image file so you need to burn it to a cd and then follow the instructions and open in pdf format, but read the instructions on how to do it first, I didn't and still need to sort it properly. good luck

Basically, the lock button surround needs to be quite forcibly slid upwards by about 10mm, then it will fall off. Don't be too worried about breaking it as they are not too expensive. My last car had all 4 broken when I got it.
See if you can lever it upwards gently, best of luck though!

Ive just destroyed all mine trying to install central locking - which was a bigger job than I ever imagined...

As fraser said, they need to move up. By the third and fourth door, I ended up just ripping them off with a screwdriver because they were going to break anyway
Replacements are about $7
Be sure to buy plenty of door clips too. They shatter nicely.

Oh, and have fun :)

I struggled for ages trying to get the locking button surround to shift and was on the verge breaking it into pieces. However, in what was probably the last throw of the dice, I tried knocking it up from below using a piece of wood underneath the bottom edge. One firm blow on the other end of the wood and out it popped. You then see why its tricky to shift - there are two hidden small lugs on either side at the bottom so some force is needed to push them out of their locating holes.
