Firefox running slow

I have upgraded to the latest issue of firefox to try to overcome a problem of it "running slow" on some sites, particularly my online banking. This takes ages to load and is slow changing pages. However the new version of Firefox has not solved the problem. I have to use IE to log on for banking, and it runs fast on IE. Any suggestions as most other sites run ok on firefox. Jim

for interest's sake try this...

1. open a new tab in Firefox
2. type about:config as the url (address)
3. in the filter type ipv6
4. you should see the preference network.dns.disableIPv6 and its value should be false

double click on the line and the value should change to true. See if this speeds up dns lookups. You can always set it back to false by double clicking on the line again

Mate, Google Chrome kicks butt...very fast and some good features. I gave away using the other 2 (ie, ff) ages ago and haven't looked back.

Hi there maybe you can try this , i have done it and have noticed the difference. I can not take credit for this as i just copied from another forum but it certainly works.


!!! THIS IS FOR MOZILLA FIREFOX - NOT INTERNET EXPLORER !!!

1.Type about:config into the address bar and hit enter. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.


2. Alter the above entries as follows: (simply double click on entry to change values)

Set network.http.pipelining to true

Set network.http.proxy.pipelining to true

Set network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.


3. Now, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to 0 (zero). This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.


4. Again, anywhere on the page , Right-click, select New-> Boolean, Name it: network.http.pipelining.firstrequest
and Set to True


5. Right-click again (anywhere), select New-> Boolean, Name it: browser.turbo.enabled
and Set to True

You must close and restart firefox for changes to take effect.

disclaimer: if you stuff anything up it aint my fault!........if for some reason you do manage to do something wrong, its not like youve stuffed around with your registry settings or anything, just re-install firefox and start again, but yeah, it isnt hard to do.
