The steering was getting kinda lumpy on rotation of the wheel, i did the drop arm joint the other day and put every thing together again i had absoloutly zero steering and i could turn the steering shaft by hand ...oh bugger!!

It was a Bar steward to get out, (until, i rang dave) it was a bar steward to get the new one in, mainly because the bottom bolt is in a small area designed for a ten year old kids hands and not my shovels!!
i soldiered on though and made the biggest socket extention known to man with the torque wrench on the end and my other hand jammed against the chassis holding the ring spanner...i guess i could have taken the steering damper off for better access but then i am taking that off soon as i really don't like it - and couldn't be arsed to do that for a third time in the same amount of months.
For your information: at one point i couldn't get the bolt in number two clamp on the uj closest to the bulkhead buggered around for a while and ended up taking it off -even though the hole looked clear of obstruction i reckon that it just wasn't square enough as when i messed around with it i felt it go on smooth then the bolt fitted straight in.

What was i thinking saying i would have bought a new landy yesterday...... NUTS!!
I wouldn't feel alive with a new one, the levels of emotion a land rover makes you feel lets you know you are alive ...yesterday i was peed-off today i am exhilerated that i achieved another milestone, it's another can do job it's another $700 saving.
Follow the workshop manual ask advice give it a go but if its a safety element and you dont think you can don't

Further to this Thread.
I did the installation of a new-new damper yesterday (saturday) and chucked the nearly new rtc tough(gotta be joking) dog(yes yes it was!) bit of junk in the garage so if anyone wants it you can it's about a month or two old with a bent thread!!

I bought an old man emu job a bigger bore than the standard land rover affair but it feels true and precise to drive, as we went for a spin to Port Kennedy last night, and the landy drove well.

With regards to the steering shaft why land rover ever bothered with ali U.J. mounts is beyond me, i realise the shaft is suppossed to collapse but was it not a do-able thing to just have the doughnut to that end?
aliuminum against steel er steel wins !!!

Big up to Dave blknight for saving me spending a small fortune on just **** that i would have purchased just cos ...:)
