Hello Folks,

Since I've had Matilda, I took out Shannon's motor insurance. They offered me a good price to insure Grover, my 07 Puma.

Now - I have a lot of accessories - bull bar, towbar, roof rack, drawer system, snorkel, etc - and Shannons have offered an agreed value of $45,000.00.

Does that sound fair, do you think? I know I would want more if I had to sell it but vehicles all depreciate too. For what it is worth, it is currently insured by 4WD Australia for market value, which they actually cannot put a firm figure on.

So I'm thinking of swapping to Shannons - hows 45k sound for a 2 year old Puma with lots of gear? Or should I try to press for a greater value?

Hey Scallops,
Try TCIS in Adelaide, They do a lot of insurance for 4WD QLD and a lot of others. They gave me a good deal on my Jackaroo with all the accessories I have fitted with an agreed value I was very happy with. (30k I think):)

No, that's OK Paul :)

Now - Redbook reckons between $32,500 and $36,000 for my year/model - these valuations don't take into account any accessories or condition, which I'd have thought would have a bearing on price. I would have thought the Redbook price range appears low. :o Still, makes Shannon's offer of $45,000 seem pretty good.

Anyone else have a comment?

I'd read somewhere on this forum that Shannons don't cover off road use; it might be worth getting clarification on this

Most tracks are marked "roads" but if you drown it fording a creek & they reckon that wasn't a road, then you'd wish you'd gone with someone else

Let us know what they say, just to clarify it

They said - anywhere in Australia - no exceptions. And I have every accessory listed with them too.

What insurers sayeth to get the business, and what they do in the event of a claim may be two different things...

ANywhere in Oz is fine, but if it is off the beaten track, it better be written in the disclosure or policy document.

A desired agreed value might come at the cost of a higher premium and possibly XS....and they always manage to accelerate the drop in agreed value later on...

$45k??? They wouldnt even look at my 110 at $40k!

Good to see the insurance market operates on a good, level playing field:mad:

Hey Scallops,

I had my D3 insured with Shannon’s and found them to very good. Last renewal they drop the value by 10k (depreciation). I rang and spoke to the young lad at the office, who was prepared to listen to my case. I was able to provide other D3's with similar K's, condition and extra's that were for sale on various web sites.

With that information of market values, Shannon's then up their offer by 7k and we had a deal.

I also had a claim in July after backing into a tree on the OTL. Claim paid no prob's

With that said I have my SVX Puma with AAMI at 60k, they were $370 cheaper than Shannon's. AAMI are the parent company of Shannon’s.

Cheers

I think $45 sounds fair Dan

Don't waste to much time worrying about depreciation values just think of what your pumas going to be worth in twenty even thirty years time and how it will be worth equal value to ten 2007 broken plastic Range Rover Vogues in the year 2039. totaling 1 million $ plus in todays price :p:p:p:p
