Hi people do many people install Treg hitches on Au Military No.5 and workshop trailers?

A friend not on AuLRO has recently purchased a workshop trailer that is fitted with a Treg hitch where the lunette ring used to be. I've not seen it before, usually they cut off the whole assembly and modify the drawbar for a ball etc.

Just wondering if it is common?

Why change from a pintle hook and ring? Easy on and off, articulation to the nth degree, and strength far exceeds requirements. My hook is rated by Aus. Standards to tow 7 tons and 1 ton vertical load. The manufacturer (USA) rates it at 16 tons SWL.

Agree Brian and my friend wants to restore the lunette ring, just needs to find one.

He would not be able to take it to Corowa in 2011 with a Treg hitch after all.

I think there was a lunette ring on the floor near the counter at Land Vehicle Spares a few weeks ago.

Unfortunately the lunette at LVS was a regular Wesco or Alko trailer hitch that you may see on any civilian trailer or even the Trak Tactical trailer. Not the lunette for the ADE No 5 trailers at all. :(

So my friend still has his Treg hitch (complete) that replaces the ADE lunette without modification. Just the thing for a Disco or Defender owner making a camper trailer out of an Army trailer.
