View Full Version : Urgent - 101 Fuel Filler Pipe Needed

The rubber fuel filler connecting pipe on my 101 has completely perished and is literally falling apart and as a result my 101 is off the road and not driveable as the tank can no longer hold fuel - I am programmed to do some club training next week.
I have tried all local car related places looking for alternatives and ideas to fabricate one but have drawn a blank. I can get one overseas but it will take a couple of weeks to get here so I will have to miss this club event that will not be reprogrammed for some time.
So does anyone have one that they might want to part with?
Thanks

I think Anthony has a 101 he is scraping for parts.
Did you chase up the Donaldson air filter pipe elbows and fittings ?

Even if someone had the part it will be trouble getting it to you by Friday evening.
Not ideal but would some fuel tank repair bandage or even some self amalgamating tape hold it together for the weekend.
Even bandage up the pipe with multiple thicknesses of 50mm duct tape and clamp it in place with the plan to replace when the part comes in.
The other option is to fabricate in a metal adapter and use several short pieces of rubber to connect the filler and tank. I used a similar method to fit a RH filler hose to a LH tank. But you don't have a lot of time.
All sort of emergency get you home repairs but may solve your immediate problem.

Unfortunately the 101 fuel filler pipe also forms part of the tank so it cannot have any leaks at all and at the moment it literally crumbles in my hands. If all else fails I will try a combination of fuel tank putty and then tapeing up the pipe but I don't think it will work.
I can get a new pipe from the 101 club but that will take time and the club outing I need to do is next week (not this weekend).
I should not have decided to try and repair that small petrol leak I had when the tank was near full. Pulling the pipe out showed up the sad state that the whole thing was in, but if I hadn't touched it I would still have been able to fill it to 80% and not leak - but now the pipe has cracks lower down that prevent putting more than about 20 litres in.

Had you tried any of the truck part places or the local farm irrigation supplies or rubber supplies place for some of the concertina hose.
Maybe even use plumbing fittings to make a temporary cap, you just need to seal on the tank and strap the other end up high (with a cap of course).

Yep tried all of them in Canberra including the hose shops - I can order some large petrol hose from them as a temporary fix. I even went to the rice burner shops looking at turbo hose and fittings - I could build something with the bits and pieces but it would cost about $400.
I live in Canberra not somewhere like Sydney - it is backwater as far as car stuff goes - we don't even have a speed shop though some bits can be ordered through other companies.
HOWEVER, looks like problem has been solved - I received a phone call early this morning - seems I have managed to get the last 101 fuel filler pipe from British 4wd Imports and it should arrive tomorrow - they are not cheap though but still cheaper than other options.

Lets hope it arrives on time.
You know, I often find getting odd things is easier in Nowra than trying to find them in Sydney.
The usual comment in Sydney is: Nah never heard of them!
The comment in Nowra is: Yup I have one, or go over to XYZ's or give us till this arvo and I'll ring around. The afternoon calls that the bit is on it's way.
The last one was Army style water jerry cans. In stock brand new for $20 at Jennings McDonald complete with the NSN and broad arrow!

Well I got my new fuel filler pipe this morning - is a much better quality item than the original.
However like most things Land Rover what a PITA to put it in. The bottom bit on the tank went on OK but the top was a pain. In the end I had to drill out the rivets that hold the filler housing onto the body and remove it - and as usual after drilling off the rivet heads the rest of the rivets would not come out - and as usual when doing so the drill bit "bit" and made the hole twice as large as it should be - and of course not on the top where it is easy to get to from behind but one of the bottom one where my piggy fingers cannot get too.
Any way after about four hours work (should have only taken one) it is in and holding fuel.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions on alternatives - was going to be the next course of action if I could not find this bit.
Cheers
