Some of you may have seen the thread in the general section about me going to get a new Game. Well it is home now so I thought I would post a couple of pictures. This one is a 1977 whereas Clancy (my existing one) is a 1978. The number on the Id plate of this one is 211 where Clancy is 282.

General condition is ok, the chassis appears to be rust free and the body is pretty good. Interior is a bit shabby and needs some work. The door trim is missing on the drivers side and the passenger side is a home made job. Interior hood lining is dirty but appears to be whole and should be good with a clean. It has a roof rack with ladder which could be useful.

Things that look like they are different from the factory rather than later changes -

Selectro free wheeling hubs, Clancy has AVM.
Seats are not "deluxe" as in they have no stitching even though they are black vinyl. Maybe the lack of door trim also means it wasn't deluxe?
Bonnet has the hollow for a spare but no hardware to attach it. Clancy has no hollow at all.
Rear door has no spare wheel holder and there is none on the back of the bulkhead behind the seats. Clancy has both of these. It looks like there may have been a swing away type carrier that has been removed to fit the ladder for the roofrack. For now the roofrack is the only place to store a spare.
The rear bumperettes are different. They may have come that way or they may have been cut down from the type that is on Clancy.
Mirrors are probably after market. The mirrors on the guards are next to useless but I can't say I like these much and they are screwed to the doors so will leave holes if I take them off.

So there is some work to get it really good. I have a new set of seats and door trims on the way from the UK thanks to the good value of the Aussie dollar so the ones that are in Clancy now will probably end up in this one.

I think I will have to fix the leaking hub at the back and the leaking front swivel seal and maybe some other oil leaks to get the roadworthy done and the brakes need adjusting or bleeding, not sure which yet. Engine seems pretty good, head was reconditioned not long ago and made suitable for unleaded.

Probably need to finish everything off on Clancy first though :).

One other interesting thing about this car is that it is registered for 5 seats. This is despite the fact that it has no seatbelts in the back at all. It has one of the side facing seat frames that is not even bolted in and it is somehow registered to use that.

Hi Tim nice rig, should be up and running in no time.
From what I have seen of the Game land rovers in the last 10 years there is a difference between 77 and 78 vehicles.
The dished delux bonnet is 77 whereas 78 is just delux
Swing out spare carrier is 77 whereas 78 is door mounted
My 77's seats are original and are plane as are quite a few 77 models i have seen.
The bumperetts are original on yours, however they seem to have had a section removed for off roading so they are 1/2 bumperetts :D
The only other difference I know of is the rims, chunky looking on 77's and more sunraysia on 78's my 77s say made in Japan over a few months.
Hope this helps, as I am in no way a Game authority these are just observations from over the years.

In some sporting circles, three games make a series. What do two series games make?
Looks the goods Tim. One for you, one for the boss now there are only two more to go.

Glen

Well done Tim, I am sure it will provide you with hours of enjoyment and frustration.

Cheers, Mick.

Well I think the frustration has already started Mick :). This could get long so be prepared.

When I bought it I was told that the brakes had been recently redone but needed adjusting. They required a couple of pumps to get action so I thought I would adjust them up today. Jacked up the front and started adjusting but it didn't matter how much I adjusted the wheels would not stop turning. Bugger, have to actually pull them apart and have a look at the pads. Did this and the pads look fine. Had a closer look and I thought, that trailing brake shoe moves a lot, hmm it looks like the side of it has been rubbing on the drum. Well the spring is hooked on the front of the shoe instead of the back so it pulls the shoe forwards away from the backing plate. Ok, try to change the spring over and realise that the locator plate is on the leading shoe instead of the trailing. So pull it all apart and put it back the way it is meant to be, get everything sitting right and lo and behold I can adjust it up and make the wheel stop spinning. Ok pull the other side apart, similar look, the spring is on the wrong side but at least the locator is on the right shoe. Once that is fixed that one also adjusts properly. Try the brakes but it still takes a couple of pumps but I have run out of time so the back will have to wait till tomorrow. I can only assume they have been stuffed up somehow too.

While testing the brakes in the driveway realise that water is leaking somewhere. Bugger, appears to be a leak from the radiator, where the top tank joins the fins. It seems to have been bodged with some fibreglass in the past so this may be a new radiator job.

So a few things to fix before the roadworthy will be possible.

I hope the frustation ends soon, so the enjoyment can begin.

Got the back brakes apart yesterday. The rear drivers side bearing seal has been leaking into the brakes and it is a bit of a mess. The rear wheel cylinder started dripping brake fluid as soon as we moved the shoes and would not stop so that has also been adding to the mess. The shoes are so saturated with oil and brake fluid that they will have to be replaced and the cylinder has to have new seals at least. The passenger side looks to have been put together properly at least but the cylinder probably needs new seals.

Well I do actually enjoy working on these since I can't really do much on the newer ones so I will keep telling myself that :).

New wheel cylinders on the rear and radiator in yesterday. Found that the size of the inlet and outlet of the radiator were different and the bottom fitting came out at a different angle. So of to FWD Motors again today to get new radiator hoses. They did the job and there are now no water leaks. So I started bleeding the brakes, back ones done ok, front passenger a little difficult to get the bleed nozzle undone but got it. Drivers side though would not move. Ofcourse the nut was stuffed after a little bit of trying so out with the vice grips but still no luck. So take the wheel cylinder off the car put it in the vice and try again. Still no luck, that bleed valve is stuck there for good. So off again tomorrow to get new wheel cylinders for the front. If I am changing one then both might as well be new at the same time.

There are a lot of oil leaks under this one, I think that Clancy spolied me a bit as his oil leaks are not too bad. Hopefully it will pass a roadworthy once I have the brakes working properly.
