Hey all, I have just bought a series 2A in need of some serious TLC, the radiator has a lot of holes in it and needs replacing. It has a 186 holden red motor in it. Should I replace it with another Landrover radiator or is there a different radiator more suited with using the holden motor? Also, is there any particular companies around that supply parts or is it a case of hunting around to get parts? At this stage it only needs a radiator, brake master cylinder, window rubbers and a few odds and sods, any feedback would be great, cheers, Pete.

Gday Pete,

Have a look in the Series 2 section - there are threads for suppliers. There are a few around and I'm sure the QLD members will point you to the good local ones.

I have found that buying direct from the UK is not too bad at the moment either with the excahnge rate as it is.

THe 186 isn't such a bad motor - usually undergeared so many have overdrives fitted or they change the gear/diff ratios - the holden motors tend to rev pretty hard otherwise.

Also, the 186 is not really an off road motor so can be a bit compromised at weird angles with the oil not circulating everywhere it should. (Some fit the larger sump from the HR?? - i think??)

The holden 6s also have a habit of getting a bit hot - so I would be thinking about getting your radiator re-cored and your cooling system as good as possible.

As for the engine - personally I would drive it for a while with the 186 and keep your eye out for a 4cyl. Often you can buy a cheap rusty Land ROver with a good donk and get other bits and peices you may need too. (Keep your eye on ebay and here in the markets section too.)

Welcome to aulro - We'd love to see some pictures of your beasty.

Cheers
Paul
