G,day been offered a 1993 Defender ute & was wanting to know what it is worth.
It is quite strigiht body wise has a 200 tdi up front nearing 300,000 Ks
Currently un registed.
Had PAS rebuilt
Bad points:
has gear box problems 5th gear gone dosnt work at all,
front diff making weird noises,
Seats riped/torn
has some rust in the doors
got a broken rear axel
Ratiator needing a good flush or replacment at worse case!
Apart from that was running/driving quite well.
Dont have any photos atm, any advice would be great.

between 2 and 3.5K depending on extras, firewall and sill rust, and if the engine is damaged from the faulty radiator.

Hi Lost Landy,
I paid $5200, for a 95 defender ute with 200,000 kms just recently, on the good side it had a recon engine within the last 5000 kms - nothing wrong with it, but it was out of the vehicle so it was done - new bush's all around new heavy duty springs and shocks, a new clutch and new brake master/slave cylinders and a newish set of seats.
On the negative side, it had a massive clunk in the transfer case-drivetrain, rusty outriggers and sills and doors, shocking steering no spare tire, a bad tray, etc. Drive train was ok other than the clunk.
I managed to fix everything except the tray and the rust for under $600 so I reckon that I am way ahead. I am also going to have to put in a new radiator & hoses. Prior to buying this I hadn't found a defender ute pre 96 for under $8000 and they pretty much all came with problems.
Jonathan.

I would be interested in the defender you mentioned to wreck for parts - if you pass on it could you send me contact details for the seller?
Thanks

At 300,000 you need too have the engine inspected to see how she is fairing, then the result of that should tell you yay or nay the beast.
200 tdi although copped a slagging in the u.k. have proved pretty game motors if loved enough.
Have a look underneath,
The bulkhead behind the heater box and at the window clamps,
gearbox if poss drop the oil have a gander at the plug for iron filings
