Hi,
I have noticed the same thing happens in my 2001 TD5 Discovery.

I thought I was imagining it. As the cabin would get warm without anything switched on.

I usually just turn the aircon/fan on.

Would be nice to know what causes it thought.

cheers

I occasionally have warm air venting through the foot well when aircon set to all vents only seems to come through the bottom vents, if I turn aircon on then off it sometimes stops it.

if you have the a/c set to econ then only hot air comes out no matter what.

if you just want to have fresh air coming in then set to econ & turn the fan off. this is the only mode that the fan actually turns off.

Hi guys
I spent ages trying to figure out what this was! It actually cooks my left leg...and then someone told me the most likely cause...

(drum roll)

Blend motors.
Now it might not be true in all your cases, but likely. If you look on RAVE there's about 4 (or 5) different little flaps with motors for mixing & distributing air from the HVAC system, and it's not reasonably common for them to fail.

So while on a hot day, depending on what's failed and in which position, your aircon is sending nice cool in in one direction one of the little buggers is sending hot air elswhere. A side effect of mine is with the system off I get little or no 'flow through' vents of ambient air.

I think the motors come as a set (I'm looking at doing mine in the near future) but apparently the job requires quite a bit of disassembly of the dash etc as you'd imagine.

Link below is for a P38 but may be the same as D2:
HEATER BLEND MOTOR KIT (http://www.britishparts.co.uk/.sc/ms/bdd/ee/687/HEATER%20BLEND%20MOTOR%20KIT)

It's quite a relief/revelation to get into my gf's V8 where the HVAC works properly.
Cheers
Mike

On older D2's air comes in unless the recirculate button (looks like a recycle symbol) is pushed in - even if the fan is off. Later D2's as below you need to set to econ & turn fan off.

Similar issue on our 99 v8, get hot air blowing through the vents when the aircon/fan is off and it's just allowing air to flow through from outside it comes through heated.

Hit the recirc button and it stops it, run the airconditioning or even just set a low temperature on the climate control in econ mode and it cools the air/works fine and gets good and cold with aircon on.

Presume it's one of the blend motors that is stuck or incorrectly adjusted when in the off poition, but i've not bothered to try to fix it since it works fine in everything other than just when allowing air to pass through.

My symptoms are very similar to this, but recently some additional problems have arisen.

I have noticed more and more that there is a lot of mist forming on the windscreen at times when you would not expect it.
Yesterday in Victoria's wet conditions I had to run the demist function permanently to clear the mist. As soon as I turned it off it misted up straight away.

Also, I noticed my left leg was getting even hotter than normal, and when I reached down and stuck my finger up under the right side of the centre console to where it felt hottest, I burnt my finger on something (this is with the a/c running:eek:) and it came out wet.

I don't seem to be losing much coolant, but it is definately damp on the right side of the heater core area carpet which accounts for the steaming up of the windscreen.

Having not sussed this out properly, it seems to me that it is either coolant or condensation from the a/c that is not draining away.

Oddly the steam seems to come through the air that is being blown on to the windscreen when the a/c is off (even though not in demist mode:eek:).

I think I have big problems:(. Help, please!

With mine even the recirculate button is pushed in I still get the warm air from the vent SOMETIMES. I guess the recirculate flap sometime work sometime not. It is very annoying.

I have a similar problem , warm air comes out of the right centre vent even though the temp is set lower than the left one. with the aircon on the difference in temps is very noticable. How deep are these motors and flaps. I would rather be cold in winter than hot in summer.
