My TD5 is just about due for new tyres on my standard 16" rims.
Currently has 235 x 16
I tow a 17' caravan
I have been told to get Light Truck tyres.
My old tyres were Duellers which gave me about 50K.
I have also been told that I can fit 245 x 16 which will give me a bit more bite.
Any clues or hints on what to get anyone

umm.....245? you will be going down in rolling diameter pretty sure, i doubt you owuld want to do that esp if you have a sals rear end
consider staying with 235/85/16 and any the major bands will suit, a lot of guys have been buying maxxis as they seem to be value for money, i run bfg's which i am happy with
265/75/16 will give you more width with about the same rolling diameter, may have to adjust steerig stops
255/85/16 will give you a bigger rolling diameter, the gearing seems to be able to cope

I think he may have a Disco 2, not Defender, then 235/70R16 is standard and 245/70R16 will be ever so slightly larger in diameter and width.
Edit: 245/70R16 will be 14mm larger diameter than 235/70R16.

Personally I wouldnt fit any tyre to my 4wd that was not Light Truck construction. Especially if heavily loaded.
Yes 245/70/16 will happily go on your D2 and will in fact make yor speedo accurate instead of overreading from the factory.
Tyre threads abound here and just about any other forum you can think of which isnt helping is it?
IMO choice of tyres will be based on your most encountered terrain, loadings, tread pattern, price and appearance last.
Do a search and get even more confused but you wont go too far wrong if you do your own research first.
Cheers

Hi All
I run 245-70-16s Pirelli's on the Disco and yes it will adjust the speedo to be just about spot on have checked it with the GPS. I don't think you will notice any other differences.
Regards
Doug
