g'day guys,
i have recently inherited the old mans 2000 td5 130, she has done over 300,000km's, she is over heating and is needing a new head gasket, however i was quoted the better part of $3000 for ritters to do it. But i rememmber the isuzu 3.9 lt desiel that i had seen, also for about $3000 in a new crate engine. Does anyone have any idea on the conversion, and if they are still making this engine?

Welcome to the forum mate :)

I don't think Isuzu are making the 4bd1 anymore, however there are Chinese copies which are new, and many original ones from trucks floating around. There is a place in Queensland which have them new although I think they are more than 3k. (7k+ IIRC)

Have a look in the Isuzu landy section HERE (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/isuzu-landy-enthusiasts-section/), and search around the forums there is lots of info on the conversion.

C H T did it in his Tdi and has some great posts about it. HERE (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/isuzu-landy-enthusiasts-section/48104-defender-4bd1t-conversion.html)

It isn't a really hard task, but it will most likely end up costing a fair bit more than 3k.. some parts are hard to find (like the bellhousing).

Best bet would be to pick up an knackered Isuzu 110 for wrecking parts.. but even then they don't go too cheap.
