Hi Guys
anyone else had any issues with noise on overrun on motorway its a whine/chatter get worse the faster you go. have just had clutch replaced because it was crunching into 2nd gear, the noise was there before the clutch was replaced, dealer though it would sort out noise now it crunches occassionally going into 3rd and am still getting noise on motorway.

Have a look on this site Defender2 - Index (http://www.defender2.net/forum/) they describe a few issues of this sort.

Was it the rear diff?

Ironically we have had our clutch changed and now at around 2000rpm we are getting a noisy vibration from the gearbox its tends to go once you change gear but comes and goes in all gears.
I have also noticed that second is getting a little more cruncher....but I no longer ever have problems getting third which was a big deal on the old clutch had to be super super gentle other wise would get the biggest bangs and clunks like it had massive drive line slack.
also whether this is coincidence or not I have put the car into first and it has popped out as I have gone to pull away.... has happened to me three times now. (just hoping it is coincidence)
other than that car has been running like a dream
I would be looking at your rear diff for the whine...we had really bad diff whine on over run and on acceleration....dealer fixed it. we have now got a tiny bit of whine occasionally on over run but I cant help feel thats the transfer case having a bit of a moan more than the diff this time

I am taking the puma in on monday morning as I am having another back op and won't be able to drive for up to 2 weeks.
I took it there last week and went for a drive with the workshop foreman and the service manager, they both heard the whine/grinding noise and the gear crunch, they spent another hour and a half with it in the workshop and have ordered all the parts (transfer box and diff I think).
I told the service manager he has up to 2 weeks to sort it out and instructed him to drive it himself after its been repaired to make sure he is 100% happy with it before he gives it back to me. I made it very clear i wouldn't be happy if it needs to go back again after sitting there for 2 weeks.
Lets hope they get it sorted as they don't have a restriction on time, 2 weeks should be more than long enough to sort it out.

I'm getting the gear overrun at low revs, like idle speeds and it is very loud, it also has a crunch between first and second that seems to be developing second to third, could this be part of the clutch issue with this model??

yep, sounds like it could be.
I spoke to the dealer this morning they have had my vehicle for a week now, last week they sent a sound file to LR and they sorted a paint defect, now they have a front and rear diff on order to repair the whine/grinding noise on overun. When i asked about the crunching going into 2nd i got the feeling he had forgotten about that. but there was no sense of urgency
spoke to dealer principal to stick a rocket up his arse. I hope it works
I really think i have bought another friday car, been back to the dealer 5 or 6 times now to get things sorted in the last month from new. the first was the day after.
just aswell I'm not working or it would be costing me a small fortune as I need my vehicle to make money.

Picked up my puma on Friday and was very excited to see it again after 2 weeks
they had fixed the paint, replaced front and rear diff and on friday they express delivered a new clutch master cyclinder which they only received in the afternoon so obviously no testing was done as I could only pick the car up between 4 and 5 just intime for peak hour traffic on a friday.
got there about 4:30 ish, spoke to the service manager and he seemed confident there was a problem with the roller pin in the front diff which he had discussed with me on wednesday. got in a started it up and thought it sounds so quiet, drove off all smiles glad i got my truck back. Stuck in traffic so can't test it properly, get half way home stopping and starting and put it into 4th clunk leave the clutch in back into 3rd clunk back into 4th clunk. I am furious!!! too late to call as its after 5. I get closer to home and manage to get speed up, cruising at 100km/h take my foot off the accelarator and its making the noise again, not as loud but still there.
They have had my car for 2 weeks and not fixed the problem and clearly not tested it properly.
before I took it in to them I told them to make the foreman drive it home and put as many miles on it as they need to even if it means puting up to 500 k's on it
