D4 Hitch Vs D3 Existing Hitch

Hi all,

A photo of the difference between the 2 hitches for the D4 Vs D3.
As you can see the height difference is about 5 inches (measured)

BUT...

Dont go rushing into your dealer yet to get one as there is none in stock & wont be until early next year. (read March or April, possibly even May)
There was an initial delay in the hitch being made & then another delay in the manufacturing process (cant remember exactly what) but the hitches had to be started again!
Part is not listed on Microcat as of yet, as LR have not got correct amount of hitches to fill vehicles being delivered to dealers.
We are delivering vehicles to customers without hitches & enquiring whether they will be towing straight away or can they wait.
The hitch will be supplied to D4 owners Free of charge as this is the spec of the vehicle.
If any D3 owners want to upgrade to the new hitch it will be an item that will need to be purchased via spare parts.

Couple of quick notes, the tongue in the old hitch cannot be used in the new hitch, the tounge in the new hitch is reversable.

Do you have any idea what the cost will be? Do you think that it compare favourably to the Mitch Hitch which I'm looking at purchasing 'any tick of the clock'?

Not as of yet as the part is not even on file.
I would take at a guess that they would be approx between 200 & 400 dollars????

Definately better than the D3 one.
Will still reduce your departure angle though. It is the best LR Aus could do without re-testing the new position of the tow ball, hence not being allowed to use the old tongue.
The mitch hitch is higher and a little further back so better off road.

Can anyone shed any light on the effort and time required to install the mitch hitch?
Is is something that can be done by a game, by not too knowledgeable, home mechanic?

You can fit it yourself, sticking something into the tongue when fitting to help position it helps. Make sure you tighten well and re-tighten after first used in anger.

Yes, you can now remove the spare wheel with the tow-bar fitted. What progress ......:angel:
