I have been looking forward to the 4wd show in perth for the last few months..
Was soooooo keen..
What i was most excited about was landrover showing off the new Diso 4 and all the new Defender models coming to Australia.
I search for maybe an hour before asking a LR competitor
"wheres the landrover tent?"
There isn't one!
My lip hit the floor and the eyes went misty..
then i got a wittle bit angry..
Why the **** dont they have one. What an awesome oppurtunity to show off the great vehicles available and do some serious PR work.
Me and my son went for a slow walk to the icecream van.
from there we left the show..I dont think we spoke a word for 20 minutes...what a shame..
The only positive was that I saw a few got trucks on the car park and Oppisite Lock had a fully tricked out def 110.
Landrover seem top be there own worst enemy sometimes..
Anyhow theres my rant..
regards..

Lets face it Land Rover aren't really interested in the DEfender (at least in Aus) and I doubt the average Range Rover or D4 buyer frequents 4WD shows, sad but I suspect pretty much fact.

I went last year , the only Landrover on show was a privately set up defender.
Landrover Australia "hopeless"

Sorry to hear of your disapointment mate, but im not surprised due to the perth / city dealers lack of form. We were cashed up and looking to buy the right LRs, but in the end I would have crawled across the nullarbor on my knees rather than buy from ether perth main dealer.

Hello rumman43
Sad aint it. Landrover are just not interested or appear not to be.
The LROCWA are at least at the show this year..but dont get me started about the Leadup and orgainsiation or disorganization to even be there.
I have had a very stressfull week.
And to end up where we are is a disgrace.I shall be complaining and May not even go to the next show as its not a 4wd show anymore its a free for all on everything else but 4wd.
At least I will be there tomorrow at the club stand to smile at you all:eek:

Hey Rumman43,
Funny you mention this as spoke to Dad before and he said the exact same thing..But when the same company owns both dealerships and has the attitude they have, I think things wont change down your way
You can tell they dont rate high in my books . but maybe L/Rover Australia need to ask why..

Hey Ean
I think you will find there are a quite a few WA AULROians went south for their purchase AND servicing rather than buy local.
Pitty anybody between Perth and you that wants a new Landy.Just get a TOJO stamp on your forehead:cool::cool::cool:

Hey Andrew ,when we bought Dads D2a we ordered it from Brissie and got it sent to Darwin for a better $$$ than in perth and the $$ he saved payed for his drive home down the west coast,
That was a new car too not a used 1..

When I was over in the west last year I needed to get some uni joints for my D1 and I got them from a private dealer ( it was either Bunbury or Bussellton) and they told me how a new disco 3 owner was made to truck his vehicle from down there to Perth to get some warranty work done.It was still under warranty and they would not bring it up to Perth at landrovers expense.
Sad and sorry state of affairs don't you think.
Cheers.

Actually, i remember noting the absence of LR last year, and when i saw the program for this year it appeared to be a carbon copy.
Damn right its a pity, and given the somewhat sterile nature of many of the exhibits, LR could really stand out with a little effort.
Shame

I was looking forward to geeing up a Barbargallo salesman or two about the lack of dealers but was most disappointed that they couldn't be bothered showing up.
They're only interested in flogging Discos and Rangies to metro customers and aren't interested in them after the sale is made!
When I wanted a new Defender in 2003 I went through the dealer in Esperance and got a much better price (vehicle delivered from Welshpool) but they don't exist now and I don't suppose Albany will for much longer either.
It's very sad that things have gone this way and apart from myself and son I know of 2 others who won't buy LR products again because of the lack of back up outside Perth.:(

id be very surprised if they were there, that they would sell anything at the show, other than the extreme show it is very much caravanning/camping orientated. there was however a good rover show on the extreme track where daniel aka mudzilla done this

When were you there, why didn't you come and say hi.
I had a blinding weekend all the way upto the last run on the sunday - took a dodgy line got hung up, blew a c.v. and stripped a maxi-drive axle .
Time to strip out the toffee and fit some real British Engineering - Ashcroft here we come ;)
More than surprised a few people though!

Was there on Sunday, caught up with Taff and watched the afternoon show.
Sure you dont want me to post the vid Jas????? :D
Have to agree with how disappointing the show was overall. Really wasnt any different to last year and I think the extreme course could have been bigger.
Maybe an AULRO tent next year?? The LROCWA was kind of tucked away in the corner.
Spoke to an older guy there. He kindly asked if I had a LR to which I responded "yes I do.." then mentioned I was an AULRO member...... end of conversation!
Is there that much animosity between the two????
Cheers
Andrew.

Hello Andrew the older guy doesn't even have a computer so I dont know what happened there, he does not even know about aulro.
I was there at the tent all day Sunday and it was busy but as you say we were tucked away in a corner. I was not happy about it but we had no choice. Next year, well I dont think we will be there but not my call.
The other clubs were also a bit peeved as we were all juggling to speak to people as we were all too close. There is no anomosity that I am aware of at the moment. Most people come to us but see many elderly people as the the club is been going for 41 years and think that the oldies cant have a good time...but we do, but everyone to their own.

As far as I saw there was only the Luna Defender and Peter's Opposite Lock D3 there representing the brand :(
For those of you who were disappointed with the direction the Perth 4WD show has taken, the WA 4WD & Offroad Expo show is being held at the Claremont Showgrounds June 2010. I hope to have a stand there and a couple of 'modified' cars.
Cheers,
Gordon

Land Rover Aus have been quite a disappointment for a few reasons to me.
A mate who was a salesperson for Land Rover in the city has been screwed royally on false promises and incorrect orders thanks to head office. He lost thousands in cancelled sales and was miserable. Having said that, his folks have a sweet D3 as he loves the machines
Even before that, Land Rover Aus royally screwed over the local dealership...they ramped up the franchise costs and made a lot of unrealistic demands at short-notice which I won't go into detail here...I was 15 at the time and absolutely disgusted, so gives you an idea of how bad they treated their representatives. The owner was a family friend who had done absolutely everything for Land Rover, formed his dealership as LR being the #1 marque, and ensure his customers were left 110% satisfied. Many Landy owners boycotted the marque after such a disgrace, and this saw a quick demise in Disco's around here. Prior to that they were every second vehicle you passed! This was the point where I stopped loving Land Rover...but time has healed wounds! :P
The fact that they have neglected to show at some important functions smack of disloyalty to their existing customers, and will serve a negative function to others. Their marketing and customer-service people need some slapping into reality. To not show up to a function like that is inexcuseable, and I totally agree with your compaints. ;)

LR don't display at 4WD shows. They go to the LR Expos and the Motor Shows.
I haven't seen them at a 4WD show in years.

That's great if you have LR Expos Ron - we're not so lucky.
I went to last year's show in Perth and thought it had gone downhill from previous years. This year, I'm on a minesite up north for a couple of months, so didn't get the chance, but probably wouldn't have bothered anyway.
Have already decided that if I do end up replacing the Disco with a new/er LR, it won't be purchased in WA (Albany is a little too far out of the way for me). I'll either wait til I move over to Tassie or buy something else - buggered if I'll give any more money to Barbagallo.

Spoke with Dad today and he bought some stuff at the show , went and picked it up and the saleman was telling him that Barbagallo refused to put a display because of the cost and they didn't believe they would get any sales from it.
If that is true then thats real confidence in the brand.
Be assured They wont be getting another cent out of me either..
