OBDII scanner/ EAS kicker for 2001 P38

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to the best way to go with an OBDII scanner tool or Rovacom lite/ similar type of unit.
I've been having a bit of a look and there seems to be a few options available.
I see certain scanners do not do everything, I want to be able to diagnose any errors and also reset my eas should the need arise.
Has anyone had experience with these units and can you recommend any good ones?
I also see there is software available to use with your existing lap top, maybe this is more cost effective?

an ElmScan 327 OBDII with digimoto software works well on identifying common trouble codes, but not necessarily LR specific ones.

If you want to get really involved and be able to clear all faults then go to Blackbox solutions... the present exchange rate makes their no frills offering very attractive for the P38...

The FaultMate MSV2 Nano from Blackbox Solutions comes up from time to time on eBay through RPI Engineering in the UK. I picked up mine a few months ago for AUD1000 delivered to my door when the exchange rate wasn't so good.

If you go for one of these, and I certainly recommend them, make sure it comes with the software/licences for the P38A.

You'll need a a laptop with a serial port or a good quality USB-to-serial converter cable. Their Vehicle Explorer software works best under Windows XP and does not like Internet Explorer 8.

Pretty easy to use... just plug in the OBDII cable to the port under the glovebox and run the Vehicle Explorer software on your laptop. The help is good and the support forum on the BBS website is very useful, with the BBS staff usually very quick to respond.

I'm not a big fan of using the MSV-2 to adjust EAS height settings, as I believe EASunlock does this quicker and simpler. However, for reading and clearing faults, the MSV2 and Vehicle Explorer is hard to beat for a keen amatuer such as me.

I am new to this forum. I have a 95 P38a which I use mainly for towing my horsefloat. Is great to drive and apart from the brake issue has been hassle free. A couple of days ago I got an EAS fault and I am having trouble getting a cable to go to laptop. I was told Dick Smith would have the gear, they didn't said go to Jaycar... no luck there either, just a scanner that didn't work. Any suggestions where I can buy a cable or get one made would be most appreciated.
