Lagging

Yesterday i did the EGR removal and removed it with no troubles and fitted a engine watchdog but i have 2 concerns Firstly i put my finger inside the inlet maifold and rubbed it and about 3cm thick almost like crude oil come out with my finger ? is it best to remove manifold and clean or what ?
Secondly once i did the whole removal of EGR i took it for a spin to see all was working like it should and it felt like i had turbo lag untill about 2000rpm then it kicked down and behaved normally ,is this a common thing or is there something else starting to go wrong

ah yeah also my cruise control has just stopped working can any one point me in the right direction in checking for faults in this, i have checked all the fuses no worries there!

That kinda gunk is normal, its exhaust gas mixed with oil from the breather terrible stuff that takes 40 years to get off your hands. Its the same on mine, it goes all the way into the inlet ports too so it would be best to remove the manifold and clean it as well as wipe it away in the inlet ports.
The lagging does not seam normal, a lot of people think it goes better when you remove the egr, however I found it stayed the same.

is the removal of the inlet manifold straight forward bolt on bolt off ?

well mine has gone backwards i had more low end kick than now

If there is Turbo lag then you have a leak somewhere.
Mine did it a turned out to be one of the clamps between Turbo and intercooler.
The hoses also kept blowing off.
I changes to narrow heavy duty clamps and this sorted everything.

the manifold comes of easily enough but you will need good fingers and tools as some of the bolts are a touch tricky to get onto.

did you check your turbo hoses when you had them off...they could be collapsing internally staving the engine of air.
