Once I have fitted the lift kit and my current tires have worn out, what spec tires as in size would be most suitable for some 4x4ing.
As my current tires are 255 x 75 x R18 is it possible to go wider than that without guard rolling?

235/85R16 would be the size you're referring to.

A question if you don't mind MSteen, you said your present tyres are 255x75x18, that being the case what brand are they?
As I have been unable to find to many higher profile tyres then 60's or 65's to fit 18's.

Terry

Look into general grabbers for your 18s. I've got them and am impressed, similar tread pattern and look to BFG all-terrain tyre.
Very limited options if you're chasing an all terrain tyre on 18s

If you can get your hands on 2nd set of 16's, a popular size is 265/75/16 or 245/75/16. The 265 is a similar diameter to the 235/85, however it is a wider tyre which is what I prefer personally.

if it has 18's then its probably got ACE, if so ive heard that too much side wall in an ACE equipped D2 dose nasty things to the ACE system, ie makes it work way to hard to counteract the side wall movement.
and 255 75 r18 is a 33'' tyre. ide say its a typo and should be 255 55 r18(29'' standard size)
a better option would be to put 17'' D3 rims on as there are plenty of sizes available compaired to the 18's.

Apologies for possible hijack here but that issue of the ACE system and too much sidewall is interesting. I've had a 2" lift and contemplating some bigger rubber, nothing outrageous, but I've had no problems with ACE and don't want to create any....can anyone offer more info on this issue please?
Cheers

Well at the moment my D2 has ACE and a 2 inch lift running 245/75r16 tyres - this has no problems.
This thread is the first time i have heard about ACE having troubles with the bigger tyres, but i havnt owned the car for long so i don't know a whole lot about it at the moment.
If you wanted to just go a bit bigger in tyre size and not outrageous then i would definitely reccomend the 245/75r16's (thats if you can get your hands a set of 16inch rims) They give you a great amount of grip at this size (especially in combination with the d2's Traction Control)
I am soon going to upgrade to 285/75r16s but I am only going to run them on the weekends when i take it offroad so hopefully i won't run into any ace problems but i'll see how it goes...

Are there any hard facts to support this or is this just anecdotal? I know of several D2's that are 10 years old and have always run 265/75's and none have had any ACE issues.
Cheers,
Franz
