I have searched the threads and read endless material on tyres on Disco's and Def. can't find any useful info

I have a 2001 TD5 16 inch factory rims.

I tow a caravan.

Has anyone got any suggestions with brands/type of tyres I can fit.

Need tyres in about 1 month.

Would appreciate any comments.

I also run Cooper ATR's, 235/70....my second set and get great klms with no probs at all to date. (2000 D2 Td5).

You will no doubt get stacks of opinions, recommendations and justifications for a number of types. To a large extent it's a personal choice on what sort of driving you plan to do and for how long etc. No definitive answer otherwise there wouldn't be such a large choice available.

Cheers

My father and I both run Coopers (ST?) 235/85 and have found that they chip like mad with chunks of rubber falling off all over the place.

For this reason I would not buy them again.. we are pretty careful drivers and don't abuse them. For us, the Cooper experience has been rather disappointing.

If it is for a deefer, I'd see if you can find some General Grabbers (the OE tyres).

Its going to depend on whether its a Disco or Defender and the use it will get. If its a Defender and is going off road atall I would get 255/85 r16 BFG KM2's

I'm not sure what BFG means.

Do you have any reason to change from the standard tyres?
I believe the standard fitment Michelin are a great tyre if lots of off road is not your thing.

When the second set of standard Michelin XPCs on my D2 wore out I went for Goodyear Silent Armors 245/70R16 light truck. They ride a bit firmer and make the speedo read 2% low but look better and fill the wheel arch better than the 235s. I chose LT construction as I tow a caravan and also have the vehicle loaded up when touring.

245-75-16 Mickey Thompson ATZ 5 Bars would be an excellent tyre.

Little larger than stock, but the TD5 can cope!

Exceptional touring tyre.

I am currentlly running Hankook Dynapro MT's a mud tyre. So far they have been great on road, in sand and dirt. 255/85R16. Above all they were a good price. Would have probablly gone maxxis but they were not available down here at the time.
Previous tyres were Cooper STT's and they were ok but at over $300 a tyre are a bit pricey now. Have also run BFG and they were good but the last set about 6 years ago seemed a bit soft.
Stay away from Dunlop 4wd tyres. Goodyear are too expensive. Bridgestone Duellers are crap though I have a few friends that swear by them.

BF Goodrich AT's on Defenders, D2a is Michelin XPC; D2 BFG AT's, D1 Michelin XPC. In preference I would run on Michelin unless you are doing a bit more offroading; I drive the D2 on BFG because I think has a better offroad grip IMO whilst still being fine on road and every now and then I need it!
