Hi,
My winch motor does not have a flicker of life so I have to pull it out. To get it out I have to pull the plate off the other side of the winch. I am striking resistance and I dont want to force it until I know what I am doing. Does anyone have a winch like this, or can you identify the brand so I can chase down some servicing instructions.

That is a very early 8274 - I think they even went by a different name then. Give me a second...

EDIT - they are a Bellview - or a warn 5867

Here is a rebuild thread:

As Ben says they are a Bellview.

I had one which I recently sold but that was missing the motor. The motors are available from the states I believe but are expensive. There is something funny about the original motors from memory.. maybe that they only have power in...?

The panic is over. I have opened the case up with a little force and once the oil drains out I will be able to get the motor out. Still if anyone can tell me what brand it is I would appreciate it. My guess it was new in 1985.

I posted my last reply before the refresh gave me exactly what I asked for. I am humbled by the depth of info. Thanks a million especially to IsuzuRover. That was an excellent thread you pointed at.:)

Just for information, it is a Bellview as stated. Warn brought them, and based their first (and arguably, best) high mount winch on these.

They made more changes (cost reductions) to come up with the current high mount (possibly better in some ways, but not as good overall).

They seem to have wanted to kill off the high mounts for many years, but discerning owners still want them as they are superior to low mount winches.

I have pulled it apart and sadly, the electric motor is in very poor condition. I will investigate the price of a replacement. The rest of the winch is in good condition. I think the motor has copped a bit of (salt?) water.

I can't get the end cap off or the armature out. Should the end cap just slide off once the long bolts are removed?
