Looks like I may me getting closer to solving my electricity issues.Oil in the alternator!!!!
I removed the alternator today read to fit a new one thats on its way and found the vaccum pump has been leaking oil into the alternator.Hoping this is the reason for my electricity loss.
I have had experience with this in the past with our Trytoo eating alternators due to the oil from the vaccum pump getting into the electrics and destroying them.
Anybody else had or seen similar in a TD5???
Can anybody tell me if a new alternator includes the vacc pump??? The pricelist I have dosent say,but also doesnt list a vacc pump for a TD5.A google search on the part no shows pics of them complete inc vacc pump.

So your alternator thinks its an ECU does it and whats to play with the oil.
AFAIK the alternator and vac pump are part of the same assembly.

Mine is packed in a box somewhere at the moment, but I thought that they could be seperated???? The 2nd hand one I got came as a complete assy. I really don't know about new ones.

They can be separated, but a new genuine alternator comes with a new vacuum pump attached.

They can be and its easy I had to seperate mine to remove the alternator to get multi grips on the lower bolt as somebody in the past butchered the round head bolt that has a hex drive. The RAVE pic shows a mormal bolt at the lower alt mount.
Is there any reason its round, like if it has flats it would foul the belt tensioner???

There is no doubt about it.Plenty of oil in there and sprayed on the block from the exhaust vents on the alternator.

Yep happened to me. What started as a drip in the Simpson Desert developed over 2 days into a constant stream, like a tap. Very easy to see where I'd been around Birdsville.
In my case the vac pump alloy housing simply developed a hairline crack, which got worse.
