Anyone buying a FL2 for towing be aware that the std hitch fitted by LR is NOT standard. It's a 40mm square hitch rather than the common 50mm square. No use for a WDH etc; the only option is to fit a Hayman Reese towbar which has the standard 50mm hitch. I found out the hard way last week after picking up my TD4 SE; although the dealer is refunding most of the cost of the LR bar if I return it in good condition. No info in sales brochures and the salesmen certainly weren't aware of it. Anyone towing with an FL2?

I ran into this problem, managed to work around but still not ideal. I just assumed 2 tonne towing would equal 50mm hitch but not so. LR really needed to go the 50mm hitch especially when they charge so much for it. But you know the 40mm would be cheaper hence it got the nod.

After having owned 8 Land Rover/ Range Rovers from '58 Ser 1 to 09 FL2 you'd think I'd have learned not to assume anything with LR. Oh well!!! The Hayman Reese bar is only $500 fitted although that's using the trailer wiring from the factory fit. What have you towed with yours?

Only a 1 tonne army trailer but the hitch height is quite high hence why I wanted to increase it but with the 40mm there aren't any options. It's annoying because LR go on about how good their vehicles tow yet look at the monstrosity that is the D3 hitch and they too have skimped on the FL2. They should really have a sit down and think about their tow options.

Saying that I've towed 1.7 tonnes with my 1 tonne trailer and it did it with ease, the rear suspension and TD4 have no problems with the weight.

On the factory one, the ball is very close to the rear bumper. Hard to get the trailer on if its got anything in it without bumping the guard. Putting a bike rack on would be a close call as well. At least it doesn't hurt the departure angle by being like that.
