Hi eveyone, Im not yet a land rover discovery owner, but am curious to hear what theyare like, are parts hard and expensive, are there many common problems, etc. Ok ill have a budget of around 7-10k and i have to tow a 24ft van from queensland to western australia. I have been lokking at 95-2000 models on car sales. Do they tow well??? any tips would be great.

Mines a 98 v8. Depending on where you look parts can be cheap, steer clear of dealers for parts. I tow a 32 foot caravan with mine and it handles it fine, i'd get one on gas though. I also drive it very hard off road and it has survived quite well.

My 3.9v8 tows a 18ft van well(never use 5th for towing). They are thirsty but as said gas is the go. Check for rust in the alpine windows and front floor well (Lift the carpet). After market suspension is the go for towing or airbags. Cheers Brett

Parts are MUCH cheaper than the equivelent on mitsitojonissan vehicles and readily available,you just need to know the non dealer suppliers that supply genuine parts;);););)Airfreight is your friend:cool::cool::cool:
A diesel Disco will out tow the equivelent age diesel mitsitojonissan with better economy.
Dealer backup is your enemy,it doesnt exsist outside capital cities and non dealer specialists,although they exsist are few and far apart.Most mechanics wont touch a Landy because they havent worked on them.Buy a laptop and a RAVE CD(electronic workshop manual available here Dave's Interesting Things (http://www.davesitshop.com/davesitshop/)) and any DECENT mechanic can help you if you are stuck.
Remember the vehicles age when buying,be aware that what ever brand no matter how pretty it looks it may not have been looked after mechanicaly,you cant blame vehicle failure on this.
You need to specify WHAT Disco you want year,D1 or D2 etc and ask about common faults found.Plenty of info here on Landrover faults,we all share our pain:cool::cool::cool:

Thanx guys for the info. For the budget of 7-10k wat would i be best off buying, remembering id need to tow a large van without spending anymore money?:)

for that money i would say get the V8 D1. You would get one and have some left over for insurance and rego ect. You may even have enough left over for some suspension.:twisted::twisted:
