I've glazed over and nearly lost the will to live, but in simple terms can anyone tell me what sort of laptop I need to purchase to be able to run the Sims 3 computer game??

Whatever I read and what ever I've been told by sales assistants in shops seemed to be contradicted by the next sentence or next article or gripe on a forum page that I read.

I'd prefer to keep the price reasonable i.e. around the $1k - $1.1k area since it'll be mainly for the kids to play Sims 3 and for me to e-mail & surf the web, listen to iTunes and to load pictures onto.

I was looking at a Dell Studio 13 XPS, but reading their forum page there appear to be alot of issues with compatibility and loading things like Sims 3.

All this dedicated and integrated graphics card stuff leaves me confused. Give me a 300 TDi to service anyday?!?!?!?

Have you looked at the games' specifications: System Requirements - The Game - Community - The Sims 3 (http://www.thesims3.com/game/systemreq)

At the end of the day anything better than that will be good to go. As with any software, dedicated graphics memory is better, faster processor is better and more system memory is better.

Yep looked at that but the thing that worries me is the comments such as:

"Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run comparatively slower. Standalone cards that are installed in vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly.
Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants may default to settings that are higher than what would be optimal for them. Graphics settings can be lowered to improve performance. "

Hence my "glazed" comment?!?!?!

Hmmm... I just remembered what I like so much about not being in IT anymore!

Now I'm starting to glaze over!

A much more useful device is an old laptop running Linux and loaded with RAVE plus a couple of hundred pages of sound tech advice from this website:twisted::wasntme:
