I noticed today that when bouncing along the bumpy Houghton Highway (or Hornibrook Bridge to those who remember) that I could see daylight between my rear door and the body at the top left hand corner.
On closer inspection, I believe the weight of the spare has bent the door over time. To fix this, is it as simple as bending it back again?
To stop this happening again, my options are:
1. Keep the spare on the roof-rack - extra weight up high, bugger to get on and off, but cheap
2. Get off my arse and swap my mate for his bonnet with the mount kit - I'm concerned my wheel is too wide, and blocks my vision slightly. (Mind you, I'm going ahead with this regardless... I just want a bonnet mount!)
3. Store the spare inside - simply not an option for me.
4. Get an aftermarket wheel carrier - the commercial jobs aren't cheap, and I lack the equipment (or talent) to make my own.
I think I'll end up with option 4 (plus option 2 for longer trips).
So, anyone know of a good place to find an after market spare carrier?
