Hi - I'm new to this so if this has already been asked and answered my apologies. I'm looking at a new 130 single cab chassis and no one has be able to tell me why they can't be fitted with ABS and traction control. The 110 can and the only reason given is that the 130 has a GVM of 3500kgs. Anyone know why?

I would say that there is no reason, they probably don't as its not the mums and dads consumer model.

you can retro fit it but it takes a fair bit of effort.

I doubt that any of the wiring would be there and cost would run into thousands not hundreds

Any other reasons that anyone can think of.

Like everyone I'm just trying to avoid the situation where I buy this year and find that the options are available on the next model i.e. that they are not currently fitted for financial reasons alone. Could the reason also be a legislative one? Is there something else. LR dealers I have spoken to are somewhat unclear.

I had a 2001 130 single cab (TD5), it was a great vehicle which I has to sell (the house needed the money!) now it time to go get another 130 - I know its difficult to say what may or may not be on the way next year, it could be that LR will stop bringing the 130 single cab here - if I can answer my question I can move forward with a purchase.

Another thing - are these options worth the trouble? My past 3 Land Rovers performed well without them - just be nice to have the choice - Any opinions.

thanks for your time.

I was under the impression that it had to do with legislation.

Some of the regulations that apply to passenger cars are clearly inappropriate for heavy trucks.

I believe that 3500kg has been used as a cutoff to discriminate between cars and trucks.

So some things that are required by law on cars are not required on a 130.

The reason is simple, Land Rover did not consider it commercially viable to fit it. It's technically possible, but as the payload increases, the calibration becomes more difficult, and the 130 would need different settings anyway as it has a longer wheelbase. Retrofitting is not feasible.

There was another thread where this was discussed at length.

I reckon you can order it for a new 130. I know of one buyer at Redcliffe near Brisbane who ordered his 130 to come with the TDV6.Landrover accepted his order with a delivery time of 6 months. It come under the special orders . category.I don't know how much he was charged for that 130.
Cheers,

I don't know whether this is gospel , but I read in a review (in Overlander from memory) that the HD pack on the 110 / 130 would not be able to be optioned with ABS / ETC as Land Rover were not going to invest in the effort of recalibrating the systems for the heavier GVM's due to the expected low sales volumes.

That is true.
