View Full Version : D2 Height and carparks

Considering purchasing a D2 but have concerns regarding its height. Wikipedia states that the D2 is 1941 mm high. Adding a 2 inch lift would bring this up to about 2 meters. How do you guys with lifted discos get into car parks that have a max height of 2 meters? Or do you park outside, and just walk in?

I live in Chatswood (NSW), so the two local shopping centers (Chase and Westfield) is where the boss (SWMBO) would be parking.

Height is the reason that a nice fender is not being considered.

Thanks

Never had any probs in my D1 with a 2"lift. know of some guys with 2"lifts and 30mm to 40mm body lifts and they seems to get in and out fine.

Car parks are one reason i have stayed away from a lift.Mine is a stock coiler & i wont venture into any car parks that have less than 2m clearence,& their are heaps of them around.

Ok......good post...reminded me I had to measure mine to see where I am at. Have just popped outside with a beer to do a quick measurement. I have 2 inch lift....264/75's plus crossbars and luggage carriers...so a trip to local shopping centre required finding an outside spot....though they do have up to 2.3 metres......hence why I wanted to see if I could get under.

Rough measurements.....with 2 inch lift and to height of roof bars that come with D2.....just under 2 metres.....would think a tight squeeze. With my rhino cross bars...I would need at least 2.2 metres. With the luggage carrier.....should just get in under 2.3 metres......need to test that out :D,

Mines 2.1 at top of gas bottle holder and 2.3 when it's in.
On 265/75's no spring lift only 20mm sag;)

Worked in car parks many moons ago and signs allow a little (50mm?) and are set on the lowest point (read lowest water pipe ect.).
Mine fits in local shops here and it's marked 2.2(most are that I've seen), just have to stay in one 1/2 only.
I use my aerials as a guide.

Cheers.

After the 2" lift mine's at 1.98M to highest point.

However, when the Roof Rack on it is now 2.14M. It's a 2 minute job to remove and I don't keep it on all the time as I park in a 2.1M height restricted car park most days.

Mine is pretty much spot on 2.1m with the 2" lift & 265/75/16 Bighorns on.

Any carpark with a 2.1m barrier will just gently scrape the height guide thing at the entrance along the top of the roof bars but will generally be ok once you're in as I think they give a bit of leeway in the actual height, so long as you're carefull to avoid any obvious low points. I wouldn't attempt a 2.0m carpark though so quite often end up parked outside at shopping centes etc. Thankfully there are quite a few 2.3m carparks in Melbourne CBD so it isn't too big a problem though when i bring it into the city.

It's very, very disconcerting knowing you're so close to the roof though, so even if it does fit SWMBO may not like the experience of taking it in so close.

Cheers,

Al

My D2 has a 2" lift and standard 255/65/R16 tyres. I regularly take it into Chatswood Chase and Westfield - no clearance problems without the roof rack cross bars fitted.

Just because you can get in to the car park, doesn't necessarily mean that you will get out unscathed.

I know of one Disco driver that wrote off an ARB rack & did $5000.00 of roof damage .... COMING OUT!

My D2 has a 2" lift and 245/75/R16s. I won't go in anything under 2050mm. Usually new carparks are OK, its the old ones (eg in North Sydney) which tend to be 1.95m. You have to be carful of the entrances and ramps due to the overhang at the back however, which when on a slope, can be another 50mm.

I just lifted 2" of my D2 with 255/60/16. The height is just under 2m. I would say 1.995m. Opened the sunroof the first time we went to carpark after the lift. Was a bit nervous but was ok.

gazk - thats exactly what I was hoping for. If I go the D2 route, I will probably get a second set of wheels with larger play tyres, and leave the standard ones for city duties.

Thanks all for the replies

maybe this is why they wanted to ban 4wd's in the city, cos they are dangerous to carparks as well as pedestrians
