Well the hoodoo continued

Back from Coffs already thanks to a loose wire in an almost brand new Hitachi alternator causing the regulator to burn out. 2 upset kids and 1 more than ****ed off adult watched the huge group of local and GC cars vanish into the distance. Must say this was the straw that broke the camels back and we are giving 4wding some time on the shelf.

So merrry xmas and happy new year to all and we might catch up some time next year.

Awwww man! :o

Sorry to hear that Justin, you've had your fair share of issues lately and this is one of your favorite trips... :(

But knowing you the isuzu will be back with a vengeance and better than ever - hang in there and good luck

Sorry we did not see you on the tracks Justin - was really looking forward to catching up as well

I am back at work myself today - only got sat on the tracks - Josh driving the O'Rangie ute today - hope it goes well

Sickman ripped his A frame mount out yesterday and spent the day fixing it with some of the Coffs boys so I am sure he will enjoy a least some time out there today. I am sure he will post more detail later.

Great set of tracks and great time even with a little rain. Top spot and cheap filling pub meal rounded the day off.

Was hot though and not time for a swim as spent a lot of time on first hill!

Well wasn't there some carnage:o
It ranged from simple blown fuses to tearing a-frame ball joints apart and bending rear radius arms like bananas, there was quite a bit of good old fashioned bush mechanics happening.
Have to say a bit thank you to the local coffs guys for doing recce trips and showing us around, top job there well done.
Of the tracks that we did it was amazing to see the damage from the recent rains to the tracks, you could have 100's of 4wd's use a track all year and still not be that badly washed out.Beats me why tracks get shut by the fun police after seeing this.
Thanks to the members who came down as it was another great trip with the GCLRO,looing forward to the next one.
Cheers Eric

Why is this track called Broken

What goes bang and look like this? :(

And the flow on effect

What a weekend.......with Justin not making it to the dirt Saturday and then mine not making it half way up the first hill, then Rod (local guide) doing a front pinion flange Saturday afternoon, and then Cheeky being cheeky this morning, i had to tell the locals "its not normally like this"

Not much to report on from my i am afraid. As above, managed to tear the A-frame mount from the diff, rip the ball from the joint, and twist the shaft off, all within 20m of engaging low range. A big thanks to Eric and the locals for getting it somewhat drivable so i could winch my self down and limp to a workshop. Luckily one of the locals that joined us has a 4wd workshop and his fabricator who was also along for a ride was willing to come for a drive to open up the workshop and fix my car, hats off guys. I can tell you though, it was an intesting drive with the rear diff wandering about 30cm side to side  By the time we got it all repaired and back together it was the end of day 1, but from all accounts there was some great tracks and some even better driving done by all.

Day 2 started with high expectations, some nice warm up tracks and off to Comando, a well known trip with a reputation. Up went Anthony in his Soft Top 110 V8 defender, making the 5ft ledges look easy. After a quick demo The109 showed that it is not all about length and the extra inch made no difference, cruised up like he had done all weekend. After a less then impressive day on Saturday my nerves and confidence were not all there, so taking the stance that if it does not feel right it probably is not i hesitantly declined. Another local from the Coffs Club showed that a Nissan could give it a go also, and being a well set up car up he went. After a little thought Josh decided that as his ute was G4 orange he should have no problems, and wow what a drive, great lines and good throttle control saw him tackle it all without drama. Not to be outdone Cheeky decided it was worth a crack, oh so close......after driving the more difficult sections without major drama a little bend in his trailing arm soon saw a halt to progress (just wait for the pics.....they will tell a thousand words). Another expert hill side recovery and it was time to head back to camp to pack up, have a quick dip in the creek and hit the road.

Thanks to everyone that attended, was still another good GCLRO weekend away.

Shut the gate on this one Max it’s the Ducks Guts.
The Hills around Coffs Harbour or more correctly NanaGlen were alive to the sounds of Rover V8’s and the odd Diesel, oh and some strange noise which I am reliable told was a Super Charger.

Cheeky was loaded up after getting her new shoes in the morning and was chafing at the bit to hit the road as soon as Henry arrived home from school, but alas my issues dragged on and we finally got off later, after a over night pause in Grafton, we arrived a Glenreigh at 7:30 am, We quickly pitch tent and pretended to have been there all along by cooking Breakfast.

9:00am on the dot we were all ready to roll,
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/11/91.jpg

So off the NanaGlen we went, no sooner than we passes the village, When the Magic Smoke came out of Justin’s Alternator.
This was such a poo ,very disappointing, everybody felt for Justin.
Stupid little terminal came of the alternator.

So after that it was off to the first Narley Hill. You know when the hill will be exciting because it has a name, and this was no exception

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/11/93.jpg

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/11/94.jpg

So Philippe was just attempting the first hill that we all had finally finished, when it all went quiet, Philippe had ripped the Ball Joint from the rear A-Frame. So Philippe was winched back down the hill, He was off to the friendly local Rover repair friend.

So off we went to more hills with names, and all of them were great fun.
Finally we had a late lunch, very late lunch, we were having so much fun.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/11/95.jpg

I finally found something that a RRC can do that a Disco can not.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/11/96.jpg

After lunch we hit the trails again

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/11/100.jpg

So it was getting late so we headed for camp
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/11/101.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/11/102.jpg

It was getting late after the County broke a front diff on the way to camp, so we went straight to the pub, which was good.

Next morning it was off to Commando. Yup a hill called Commando.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/11/106.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/11/107.jpg

Cheeky had done everything so far and had put in a bit of Cheeky Magic to bout.
So we were working up Commando and it had been very exciting, we were almost up the last, but the most cross axel step.
Cheeky jumped up to the left and I had to unload, she dropped off the rear passenger tyre badly, Josh run up calling Stop.
Opps

I would like to give a big Thank You shout out to everybody present who climbed up to help out.

Thanks to all involved with organising this trip (Justin esp. sorry you only got one day) and to the coffs boys for showing us around and the GCLRO guys on the trip.

What a great set of track and area to play in - and I did not see the Nanaglen stuff on Sunday but Josh said it was fab.

Josh arrived back and on last turn into my street or there abouts the spring hanger for the trailer broke - bought new one today - going to be a bugger to weld unless I can winch it up somehow.

Also noticed that the pinion seal rear of Ute has been leaking - so must have taken a knock there on the last day - as well the power steering pump leaks heaps now so doubt it will survive much longer - will replace pinon seal and possible the power steer pump (or at least carry a spare pump ready).

We are keen for Coffs 2010 in early Jan or feb - maybe QB weekend would suit - any others keen? Might have Hybrid series 3/fender/rangie going by then!

Okay, had a great weekend wheeling wise but the dunga is struggling to play the game atm so that may require some weekend drinking sessions to solve the engine issue, will be pulling the cam etc.. out on the weekend and having a looksie as I suspect a major reason for the dungas sheer lack of go despite the 35's (they'll make a big difference acceleration wise but not to the point that 100K is flat-out on most if not all hills even in third gear ).I also had a issue with the auto loosing fluid out of the dipstick on steep climbs, worked out that I ovefilled it accidently but it was enough for me to pike on commando of which I wasn't too pleased about because I know the dunga can do it  They'res always next time.

Also the heat was a tad much for me, I'm not a heat person so maybe next Coffs trip could be in the cooler months of the year? I can warm up but cooling down is a bugger.

Also thanks to the local Coffs blokes for there guidance and there knowledge of the area and more than happy to show us the 'narley' tracks is what we wanted  Also for putting up the dungas lack of go at times.

I just want to clear up one point, we were there on a G4 Orange Mission, we went from one Difficult/Extreme (Impassable if you read the trees) Hill to another, then another and another.
Coffs area is spoilt for wheeling tracks
That is not to say that the whole area is G4 Orange,
We traveled on tracks of all standards, from Scenic to Moderate, to Hard, to Extreme to What the Bloody Hell am I doing here.
The point being is Cheeky was the runt of the litter, I felt very inadequate, and we asked the locals for G4, in fact we goaded them for more.
That said any vehicle / convoy of any standard could easily entertain themselves for weeks in the Coffs Area.

Hi guys,

Would just like to post a quick thanks to all that attended the Coffs trip - again a great group of people.
A massive thanks to the Coffs crew who organised & guided the runs and assisted in the recoveries & repairs (Anthony, Marty & Sando - bloody champions).
Also a huge thanks to Eric for letting me run shot gun for the weekend - that truck just never ceases to amaze - the looks on Watto's face on numerous occasions => priceless!!

Grimace is so jelous (sp?) :(

I need a fix! Fluffy is getting all depressed, patiently sitting in the garage waiting for some form of attention... I best not show her this thread, or mention anything about coffs, she might take it the wrong way. Poor Fluffy.

Cheeky had a little chat with Fuffy last time she was out playing togeather.
Cheeky told me that Fluffy said she would really like her lockers plumbed up, so the switch was more than Hot Air
Maybe that would get her out of her depression :p
