Am I a lunatic or not. Been browsing Carpoint and made a short list 98 to 01. up to 140K klm prices range from $15999 to $29990. Some prv some dealer. All but one in Vic. Even includes a Toorak Tourer:).
I'm happy that the Tdi conversion to my 93 Vogue is finally sorted out and engineered after about 3 years of misery and money. I drives nicely but now I think the rear Maxilock diff is stuffed, theres a problem with the ABS, although the brakes work fine and I'm sick of the crappy plastic centre console that breaks up if you even look at it hard. When all's said and done it's still a 93 interior... I want better and i'm tired of trying to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.

Yes. Clearly you are a lunatic.
But you will be in good company.
My advice would be don't pay more than around 20K for any P38. Even a 2001 model is heading towards its 10year old mark. This is when the rubber bits (air bags, o'rings etc) really start to perish and need to be replaced. In a nutshell, most of the horrible things you hear about P38s is simply because a rubber or plastic bit perished and needed to be replaced.

I miss, the P38 I had, was a 95 4.0 SE, had done 346,000km's when I sold it, and it's still very local and going strong, awesome cars:)

We are also looking at upgrading Debs Rangie for a P38a.
Im thinking for $20000 you are getting a lot of vehicle. Its just a matter of finding one of the last of them in good nick.

Dont be in a hurry ,i have been looking for a few months and also noticed the majority seem to be in Vic,maybe all the NSW ones are Keepers
I got mine last weekend( Carsales) private sale ,8/2001 HSE Vogue.no rego ,$15000,interior 9/10,no dents ,i expect to spend 2K on it to bring it up to scratch,i today changed the platinum plugs which i think have never been changed in the 140k that this one has travelled, the gaps were2 .5mm to nearly 3mm with nothing left of the electrode BUT it still ran OK
I have had 3 LR's, 5 rangies, 2 discos, over 45 years,never a P38,so this ones a KEEPER ,well for a while anyway!!
Cheers
