Hi,
Can anyone give advice on what the connection type is for a 2006 Defender TD5, from the factory CD Stereo?
I am looking at a replacement and not sure where to start...
Is it a standard connection?

After trolling many web forums for tid bits of information and ringing around a bit, i go to the bottom of the CD Harness/Replacement CD issue.
The 2006 TD5 Defender (Manufactured in England for the Australian Market) has a Visteon CD/FM Radio - Model 6500CD-Europe.
To remove, you need to remove the grab handle on passenger side, remove the Heater Control on drive side, and then remove the ash tray (coin holder) in center of the dash, after that remove the screws in the demister vents and then remove the long top dash piece. After that you can get at all of the screws for the center console out, and remove the console and CD Player attached. It is then a matter of bending back all of the lugs from the back of the CD and removing the CD after you take out the various dash control plugs and FM Aerial.
I removed the Firewall alignment plug from the back of the CD to re-use with the new install.
The harness that is used is a Euro ISO style harness, this is good as it is pretty standard, there is another BMW style harness on the back of that, but that is irrelevant here. You can find the style of harness for your stereo Here (http://www.aerpro.com.au/list.php?cat_no=10&cat_name=harnesses&cat_sno=161). For my install it was a Sony to ISO harness, there is one for most brands of CD players.
For the FM aerial, the standard connection on the Defender is a coax style connector, this just slips off if you have the standard Aerial connector on the new stereo.
Install the new CD, and reconnect everything.
I will keep and update on the rest of the install.
