D2 Front window electrics

I was about to replace the nylon window rollers in my drivers door regulator when the window jammed just below the fully closed position when I was opening it. All I can get is a "relay click noise" on the passenger side :mad:, all the other windows are working fine. Fuses etc are ok

Any Ideas

I had this two weeks ago, the arm had snapped off the actuator. Whole actuator needed replacing.

Yep disco window regulators fail fairly regularly usually at the join between the scissor mechanism and the half moon cog. You can try carefully welding back together as that has worked for some members but it only lasted another month or so for me. My advice is to replace with a new item.

Thanks for the reply's, it turned out a roller had completely broken off and jammed in the rail and had made the nylon gears jump.. I took the motor apart and realigned the spigot gear and all's well.:) Now just have to find a suitable bolt to hold the new brass roller on !

Recently experienced the window jamming when going down. Jams about 7 cm from the top (from being fully closed).

I had a look inside the door trim and noticed a plastic roller bearing which works with the mechanism had broken (attached to the scissor component which then moves in the bracket that is attached to the glass).

Pretty sure it was broken some time ago but now finally won't go down.

Is this the reason for it jamming or is something else jamming it up.

Must be at least 6 months now since I ordered a new regulator for the drivers door. While waiting for delivery, I pulled out the broken one and welded it up with the mig in my shed. The new one's still sitting in a box in the shed waiting ..................

Mine just failed today. The window was stuck in the full down position and would not wind back up. The motor was running but no action.

When I removed the actuator and motor assembly all looked ok. However when I disasembled the plastic gear box I found that the internal plastic gear had a large crack through 90% of it. Hence it was no longer driving the steel output gear.

Need to source a replacement motor and gearbox...

Only 11 and a bit years old. This would not have happened on a series.;););)

Regulator kaput. Replace.

Some have had success with repairing them and others not, but I don't believe it's time well spent.

Depends on what has failed.

The two failures that I have experienced were -

1. Failure of the "spot" welds holding the assembly together.

2. A couple of teeth worn off at the end of the driven radius, allowing the cog to spin when window fully down.

If you have a Mig welder handy and know how to use one, both of the above are about a 5 minute fix. Mine are still going strong after being repaired more than two years ago now. I have a new drivers' door regulator in the shed, but so far have never needed to install it.

Update to this. It was just the window regulator. Bought a new one from the UK for about 25 pound. It was a aftermarket regulator but identical in every way. My car had the original part in it and the door trim had never been removed before as the dust cover was all in one piece. I also replaced the the door latch at the same time. (believe it not both broke at the same time).

I ordered the door latch and a spare key also from the UK so postage was well and truly covered as the prices in OZ were 2 to 3 times more expensive (The door latch was a genuine part for ~$105, key $140).
